Living at Sunset Vine Tower has truly been a fantastic experience! It's located at the iconic corner of Sunset Blvd and Vine St in the heart of central Hollywood, perfect for someone who loves the Hollywood vibe and a premium lifestyle. There’s always something fun and interesting happening around here.
The building's standout feature has to be the floor-to-ceiling glass walls. They let in a great amount of natural light that makes your home feel open, bright, and airy. The panoramic views are amazing, featuring natural sunrises and the city lights at night, with vistas of the Hollywood Hills and sign, downtown, west side, ocean horizon, and more, depending on your unit location. The very high ceilings add to the feeling of spaciousness. The units are modern and loft-style, but features like wood floors and the fixtures still make it feel warm, like a home.
Practical amenities here really make things easier. The 24-hour staffed front desk service means I don’t have to worry about package deliveries, which they receive and hold for me. The secured underground parking is a huge plus, especially in this busy area. The building is currently installing a lot more electric vehicle chargers in the garage for those who have or want an EV. The in-unit washer and dryer are a big time-saver; you can also send out and receive laundry at the desk to a nearby dry cleaners and wash and fold.
There is a very nice pool area with a good amount of sun for lounging, relaxing, and socializing. The pool area also has an outdoor barbecue grill perfect for gatherings, or you can simply go down the elevator and grill your dinner. There’s a conference room for business meetings. The building has a gym for a quick to get to workout, but many residents also belong to one of several top gyms and fitness studios that are located just one to a few blocks away (Equinox and 24 Hour Fitness are each just one block away; LA Fitness and Golds not much farther).
For those with active, fun-seeking lifestyles, including me, the location couldn’t be better. There's everything from top-tier restaurants like Mother Wolf and Gwen to lively and view-abundant rooftop bars like Grandmaster Recorders and Mamma Shelter, not to mention numerous coffee shops, nightclubs, and lounges, all within walking distance. The Palladium, Pantages, and Avalon are only a few blocks away, along with private clubs like Neuehouse and The Aster. Trader Joe’s is just a block away, making grocery runs, and "I forgot something" situations, quick and easy. On Sundays, I enjoy strolling through the Hollywood Farmers Market. Griffith Park is just a ten-minute drive if you’re into hiking. Also, with the Arclight Cinemas and the Cinerama Dome, located literally next door and planning to reopen in 2025, movie nights here are about to go to a whole new level!
Recently, a new management duo has arrived on-site, bringing great fresh energy to the building. They’ve been introducing a series of improvements that have been very welcome. They are approachable and genuinely invested in the residents' experience and lifestyle, as well as the quality of the building’s function and appearance. Similarly, the building engineer and maintenance team are very quick to respond if something needs fixing, and it’s clear they really care about keeping the place looking good and keeping things functioning well. The new management team just threw an outdoor pool party for residents with food and drinks, which was a fun way to meet new building neighbors, reconnect with other residents, and kick off the pool season. I’m looking forward to more of these SVT events in the future.
Overall, living at Sunset Vine Tower is an incredible, one-of-a-kind experience. It combines the luxury of modern amenities and truly unique building architecture, with the convenience and excitement of urban living in a fun, lively part of town. If you’re searching for a home that offers a premium lifestyle in the heart of Hollywood, SVT should be at the top...
Read moreThe good: the units are everything that you see in the pics online. One of a kind in LA. One the best apartments in the city if you are going strictly by the apartment itself. Floor to ceiling, all glass, panoramic view of the city with 13-17ft ceilings. Nice.
The bad: everything else. This is a luxury apartment with the facade of full service - security/door man (same person), pool (shaded by the building so limited sunlight plus the Chipotle there vents its meat smoke into the area), gym (no one uses it - small), bbq (see: pool area), and two people in the management office (the biggest problem of all). The "management" really do not know or care about tenant experience. They only care about leasing out units and getting rent in on time. Nothing else. Asking them for assistance is a big chore to them. Do not expect things to get done except on their Mon-Fri 10-5pm schedule and only if the one maintenance person has time for you.
There is no recognition of treating the tenant paying higher rent ($4000-10000 and up per month) with any extra respect.
The appliances are dated and defective. The washer and dryer are the cheapest that money can buy and afford you half loads. The refrigerator in my unit I found out after a few weeks shuts itself off during the day (for hours) so that your items melt only to turn back on and re-cool and re-freeze. Extra dangerous. Ask your doctor what that can lead to... When I approached management about the fact that mine had shut off on a 96F Saturday and that I wanted assistance to repair the refrigerator and remove the rotten items I was told "It is not an emergency, if the food is rotten you should remove it if you think it might stink. We have no staff until Monday".
$4000 a month for that reaction to their defective appliance. No proactive management ideas (i.e. hiring a cleaning staff to come in, spending any extra funds) to ensure that the tenant is not put out by their defects. They are not authorized spend a dime so if your problem requires attention when no one is around, they have no solution for you.
Note that the leasing agent does 100% of the work and tenant interface and the actual manager ignores you - they sit in the same office 7ft away from one another with no walls. I have brought issues in front of both of them and the manager just sat there silent playing Solitaire. Never spoke a word. In half a year I have never received any email or had one single word spoken to me by the current manager despite some serious complaints (maintenance staff came in while I was away for a week and cranked the a/c to maximum and left it on, complaints of possible carbon monoxide headaches). It was all left to the leasing agent to handle.
Overall, it is just not worth the money. Go elsewhere. Buy a house maybe. It would be more honest if they abandoned the lobby and staff and just made it a non-managed luxury loft with no staff whatsoever. Would be much more honest and acceptable as you would not expect customer care. The fact that they have paid people to lull you into thinking that you will be taken care of is unnecessarily misleading.
Almost forgot to mention the time that the front desk of this secured building sent a drunk and high guest to the wrong floor. This guest of another unit barged into my apartment at 1230am while I was sleeping, turned on the light and started yelling. It was terrifying. There is a protocol where guests must be allowed in by the resident but this time the person was just waived through and the guest named the wrong floor.
Finally, there is something in the building that makes me nauseous, dizzy and ill. Cannot for the life of me figure out what it is but the symptoms only appear when I am in the garage or my unit. Becoming uninhabitable. One star. If I can was allowed to give...
Read moreI have lived here for 3 years now and the lofts are well designed, views are incredible, maintenance is great and front desk staff and management do their jobs well. If it was not for the "new" design plan for the lobby I would be inclined to give it 4 or 5 stars.
When CIM managed this building it had a perfectly modern looking open design to the lobby. When Alliance Residential took over they made a lot of positive changes but made a mistake in the "new" design of the lobby implemented in June 2014:
Ironically, money was spent on a look that has cheapened the appearance of the lobby, and on furniture, that is completely out of place. More specifically: the building is made of glass, steel, exposed concrete, high ceilings, and divided into open lofts -- all this typifies modern, minimal, and how everyone recognizes Sunset Vine Tower.
By contrast, the current "new" furniture and "new" look is 70's style, cluttered, lowers the ceiling by lowering the ceiling lamps, uses the most displeasing combination of green with gold, brown and grey, has a cheap Vegas-style neon Sunset sign by the poolside, and has wallpapered the very walls that were supposed to be left as is. Even the "new" wall art looks cheap and out of place. And they have put it so many plants into the lobby, that you might think they are for sale.
While these 70's looks (or whatever look they are going for - Old Hollywood?) may be appropriate for an older building in need of a retro-makeover, it looks very forced onto the modern Sunset Vine Tower, and clearly out of place.
A majority of residents have complained about the "new" lobby look and management is aware of this. Hopefully someone will take action to return it to the modern aesthetic that worked best and provided the highest occupancy.
We all appreciate the intention behind trying to change things up in the lobby, but the result did not work out, unfortunately.
Why force an OLD HOLLYWOOD look into a NEW MODERN...
