DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HILA.
First off, I would like to state that there are policies in place to prevent things from happening, which I 100% get and respect. However, there is a right and a wrong way to go about things and enforce those policies.
I left my house at noon. There was a bunch of traffic since we are in Miami, I proceeded to call the Studio ahead Since I suspected that I was going to be a little late (1 or 2 minutes). They did not answer so I followed the instructions on their voicemail and texted them. Letting them know. I was going to be late and that parking was difficult. I finally parked, and I could not pay at the parking meter as it was showing an error. Had to download the parking app the Parking lot closest to the studio uses and was finally able to pay For the parking. I was literally already inside the studio when I paid for the parking. The class started at 1:00, at this point it is 1:10, maybe even a minute or two before. The instructor clearly saw me as she called my name when she was seeing who was in her class to take “attendance,” as all Pilates studios do. I pointed when I heard my name that that was me and informed her through the glass that separates the Pilates studio from the reception that I was just able to pay for parking. I put on my grip socks and as I’m about to enter the studio, she stops me and says you cannot enter this class as we have a 10 minute policy. I said that I called and texted and I live an hour away and there was a lot of traffic and I explained to her the parking situation which I already texted about. Keep in mind, she saw me enter the studio and did not say anything until I’m finally entering the class… She told me to show her the text messages so I went to grab my phone to gladly show her that I was not lying or being deceitful. I waited for her to come back around and when she did I showed her the messages and she did not even look at my phone for more than 10 seconds before rudely and ignorantly dismissing me and says “yeah, they did not answer the phone” and then walked away.
I have taken MANY Pilates and yoga classes all over south Florida and this has NEVER happened to me. As a young woman your mind cannot help but immediatley think if you looked different, or gave off a different appearance, the instructor probably would have acted differently towards me and this situation would have never happened- it should have never happened.
I then proceeded to call the number that I texted to explain the situation because I really did not understand The lack of communication that occurred. The owner picked up the phone and he was truthfully the loveliest business owner I have ever spoken to. He understood the situation and offered a resolution. I wasn’t looking for any sort of monetary resolution, I just wanted someone to truthfully understand what happened and it seems like he did and that’s what i respected. As a business that is so female populated, and dependent, I expected better from a...

Read moreBeen to 20+ classes here since late 2023. Have not gone in a while and was excited to return after some time away. I never wore grippy socks in the past and it was never an issue at this studio, regular socks were always fine. Something must have changed because, as the other reviewers noted, they are very intense about the sock policy now. Maybe it’s a way to bring in additional cash flow — at $20 a pair (for plain ankle socks lol) it feels quite predatory. Most other studios sell these for ~$9-12. What’s worse was the scene they caused about it. The instructor interrupting the class to point out that I had the wrong socks and that new ones needed to be purchased on the spot was an icky approach, and certainly ruined any chance at a mind-body connection for the duration of the class. As others have noted, shaming patrons seems to be a recurring theme. Fortunately, there are a plethora of other pilates studios in the area to patronize. (The owner’s insistence in other reviews that this is for hygiene reasons doesn't make sense — how would normal socks not accomplish that? Just charge more upfront for your classes if that’s the goal here and let your clients decide if that’s what they want to...
