Blue Shell's Sweets & Treats — Local services in Morro Bay

For 2 years all I've heard is how great these cinnamon rolls are so I couldn't wait to try them.

When our group walked into Blue Shell's Sweets and Treats, we were greeted very nicely by the friendly, young woman behind the counter.

The Cinnamon Rolls were front and center when we walked in so we definitely couldn't miss them. Look just a couple of feet away and you'll see a display of chocolate enrobed treats including a variety of chocolate covered nut and caramel clusters. The Cinnamon rolls themselves were soft and had a very nice texture. We shared one with nuts and cream cheese frosting on ½. The rolls weren't very sweet- which is great - BUT- that comes at the expense of flavor. One of the reasons everyone loves Cinnamon Rolls is because of the cinnamon-sugar filling that's wrapped by a delicious, fluffy dough. If done well, it's filled with delicious cinnamon sweetness-- without being overly sweet. They are full of the warm flavors and scents that only come from cinnamon. Not only were the cinnamon rolls actually needing more sweetness (something I Never thought I'd say of any cinnamon roll anywhere) they also needed more Cinnamon flavor as it was missing altogether. That wonderful sweet cinnamon filling was nowhere to be found. In it's place, you will find a very nice Looking filling with no flavor that had a very off-putting, slimy texture. (think freshly cut aloe vera plant gel or okra) This isn't exactly the texture you expect to find in a cinnamon roll.

The chocolate covered nut cluster was filled with a very generous amount of nuts but the milk chocolate has little flavor and tasted more like chocolate flavored coating. Here's hoping there's improvement in then both. Al We were hoping for a treat but left...

I've been coming to the shop for a few years. This place has been a "must stop" for me whenever I'm in Morro Bay. This trip was a bit disappointing. I always come for the truffles, and they were out of several of the flavors normally purchased. I was still able to purchase a few, but the quality just wasn't what it has been in the past. Im not sure what the difference was, but they just don't taste the same. Hopefully, this was just a one off and it will be back to normal on my next trip. The staff could be a bit more friendly, but it was a busy day, so they were most likely just tired. Wasn't very satisfied with this experience, but I'm not giving up my favorite sweet shop just yet. Fingers crossed the next...

I purchased several different flavors of truffles and was disgusted by them. They all tasted like they were rotten. I don't know what it was, but each one had an overwhelmingly bad flavor. Making matters worse, I didn't realize that this was the case until I had gotten home. I would have returned them but I live several hours away. I ended up spending way too much money on a bad experience. Their chocolate is overpriced and in this case the batch was bad. Assuming that it doesn't always taste like they dipped the truffles in rotting fish guts. Big time...
