This gym is poorly ran, as you guys know it's very hard to cancel your memberships because you have to return to your home store to do so, or you can send a letter in the mail. As I have moved an hour plus away from this store, after I received my October charge I sent two letters in the mail canceling my membership. I was charged for the month of November, so I called the store, told them I had sent two letters, had them cancel my membership, and asked for a refund. They told me someone would get back to me within 24 hours, and after me calling the store two more times and sending two more emails, I received an email this morning saying they will not issue a refund because I called and canceled my account after I was charged. Well of course I called after I was charged, as I had sent two letters and didn't expect another charge. As far as I know they did get my letters and just refused to cancel my account, I am so disappointed that this company will not refund $20 to an upset customer, I've worked in customer service all my life and have refunded much more money for smaller issues to make sure the customer is happy and returns, and now I will be warning people I know that go to gyms that Planet Fitness treats their customers like this. Please beware. EDIT: The owner responded to my comment and told me to contact their website. Their website emailed me and just told me what I already know, each store is individually ran and I need to contact the manager at the store. I already did that. How hard is it to issue a refund? Read moreReading through the reviews I see that I’m not the only customer that has experienced the issue I have today. I have moved away from the area, over 2000 miles away and couldn’t return to the area to cancel my membership. The local planet fitness where I moved to said they cancelled my membership for me, 8 months ago, they made the phone and said it was taking are of. I thought great. The location closed due to covid heard nothing from planet fitness as I shouldn't have and now today, they’ve taken $508 from my bank account. After calling the new philly location, I got the run around phone excuses and they’d call the other location but there would be no refund. Not a very creditable business.
Update - I received an email from a representative from Planet Fitness regarding my issue, this person was great. Unfortunately I was referred to calling the New Philly location again and spoke to the same person I originally spoke with, which claims something different occurred than my first conversation with this person. I was then referred to the district manager that doesn’t even have the professional decency and ethic to respond. I now understand why this entire scenario occurred. This should probably be a topic of discussion within their next management meeting.
4 months later.... the saga continues with this place. I have for some reason out of the blue been charged $41. I have no membership, I live 2500 miles away and yet I still can’t get an answer from anyone at this place... just the run around stories and them taking money from my account. Read moreI just ended my membership at planet fitness in New Philadelphia. Because of the toxic, unsafe, uncomfortable environment. I've been a member for over 8 yrs. In the past three years the gym environment vibe has changed. And it hasn't been for the good. Between staff members threatening me and others with violence. And members being kicked out for threatening staff. And being allowed back into the gym. Causing myself and others to be uncomfortable and feeling unsafe. Being a disabled veteran. I've seen enough conflict...in my life. I just want to workout and be comfortable and help others when I'm able to. I would definitely consider other gyms in rhe area. Me and my fiancee had to leave this gym. Because of management and members making us feel uncomfortable and not welcome. The turnover is horrible on staffing. Under qualified employees being hired and managers are causing alot of bad situations. That will come to a complete mess at some point.
