So today I was in Monahan train Hall in the Long Island railroad waiting room and the Amtrak announcements being made by the customer service office had their volume so loud in the Long Island railroad waiting room at Monahan that it emptied out the room so I asked the attendant who is always there who can I talk to about this because it's so loud we can't even hear our train announcements she agreed and said that she had already notified Amtrak about the problem when she had arrived at 7:00 here it was coming up on 1100 hours Eastern standard Time and the sound was still blasting so after getting juggled from Amtrak personnel to Amtrak personnel I finally was directed to the customer service booth in Monahan train Hall where indeed there was the gentleman who was actually making the announcements with another gentleman who said he was the supervisor for the sake of accuracy I will say now that both individuals refuse to give me their name and when I press them on the issue they called Amtrak security instead of giving me their names but they were the individuals who at honor around 1100 hours was one was the individual making the announcements the other way his supervisor who's answer to to the question in which I asked very nicely was to tell me that for the last week Amtrak had an issue in there waiting room where the Long Island railroads announcement system was too loud so basically he was informing me that he was aware of the problem but basically tough s* because the Long Island railroad announcement had been loud in the Amtrak area for the last week I told you gentleman I was not in Long Island railroad employee but an average commuter and from there he just got more and more room again when I asked how I could try to work this problem out he told me to contact the owners of the building at that time I told the gentleman that answer was rude and uncalled for as he knew very well there was no way even had it not been a holiday week that I could actually contact the owner of the building so again I asked him for him and the other gentleman's name and I grabbed a piece of paper and started to use a pen and that was attached to a clipboard this customer service supervisor proceeded to snatch the clipboard out of my hands whipping the pen also at this time I pulled my badge out of my pocket and informed him that he had just come very close to assaulting a dcis federal agent. I find this Behavior highly unacceptable and felt like it was some high school or Petty neighborhood beef between MTA Long Island Railroad and Amtrak which even if there is the customers of either organization should be made to suffer. So after getting nowhere with this individual I deceived decided to see if I could locate the physical plant manager or someone who work maintenance I was given various directions until I stumbled upon an open room and lo and behold in the new beautiful Monahan Trainor building look at all this black mold spores all over a ceiling in a room that any customer...
Read moreIf you want to use the gender neutral bathroom here (especially if you look androgynous), please be wary, and report to the Amtrak help center if anything like what happened to me happens to you.
I was waiting outside the locked, single stall, gender neutral bathroom for about 5 minutes (thinking someone was in there) until an employee, woman, and girl pushed past me to unlock it and went right in. I waited outside and tried to go in once they were out, but the employee physically pushed me out of the way and said I "don't need that" and I let him know that I would like to use the gender neutral bathroom because I feel more comfortable there for my needs. I didn't think it was such a difficult request because no one else was in need of the gender neutral restroom at the time and it was already open. He laughed at me and mocked me for asking to use the gender neutral bathroom as about 30 people waiting in lines for the bathrooms watched and said nothing (it was a busy travel hour). I asked him why I wasn't allowed in and he continued to push me away and say that I don't need that restroom and to go somewhere else. I was absolutely publicly humiliated and violated, and just left, feeling angry, upset, and othered for no reason. He locked the bathroom up again and looked proud of himself, still laughing and smiling, once I gave up trying to use the gender neutral restroom.
If there are gender neutral bathrooms, why aren't the people who fought for gender neutral bathrooms to be implemented into more spaces getting to benefit from their efforts? Why did I have to wait as other people were allowed to use it but when I wanted to use it I was pushed away and told to leave? Gender identity, appearance, and whether one is transgender or not should not be a reason to physically push someone out of a restroom (gender neutral, at that) and refuse them access while other people get to use it freely with no problem.
Moynihan Hall, please make sure the employees you hire aren't ones who will make your patrons feel the way I did when physically barred from a bathroom. I am a frequent traveler here and every time I have to use the restrooms here I am so afraid it will...
