Yesterday, I spent a whopping $8,000 on an outfit, only to discover a piece had fallen off by the time I got home. Heading down to the customer service center on the basement level for assistance, I was initially met with a cold shoulder. Then, a short-haired lady directed me to return to the department from where I had purchased the outfit for repairs. While waiting for my husband to exit the restroom, I overheard the two employees rolling their eyes and whispering, undoubtedly talking about me. I refrained from confronting them and instead reached for my phone, seemingly to record the incident, which promptly ended their murmuring.
After my husband returned, I inquired about their disrespectful behavior and asked to speak with their supervisor. When the manager arrived, he was less than helpful, insisting that he trusted his employees would not engage in such behavior. He relayed that the two employees had sworn they said nothing, suggesting I take my complaint to a higher authority. This response seemed to insinuate that I was fabricating the story, although I had no recorded evidence to prove otherwise. Yet, I would stake my Ph.D. and my faith on what I heard them call me—an idiot.
The shopping experience in the women's department was delightful, yet it was shocking to encounter the worst treatment in the 'customer service' department.
