This hardware store has for the most part been a really great 4-5 star spot. They are helpful, knowledgeable, and well stocked. However, my experience is a one star because today they lied straight to my face. One week ago I made a purchase that I tried to return today. I couldn’t return it because it falls under there non-returnable automotive items. Ok, that is fair. What is not fair and really the worst is that the first thing the cashier did was ask the person who sold me the item if they told me the no refund policy. That person lied straight to my face and said yes he did. I told them to check the tape but they said he said what he said. I turned around and left because no refunds is no refunds. My mistake for not asking and not looking up the policy, but I’m still mad at that guy for lying about what he said to me, which was absolutely nothing. And for the record I didn’t use the item. Went to this Ace hardware 12 27 to purchase 2 front covers for a double plug 110v outlet. The staff was unclear of what I was looking for. I did not go down the isle to look at what was available as I had a wagon with over $200 of tools in tow (middle of a job). It tooka 3 tries for the staff to find what I had asked for. I repeated "2 front covers for a double plug 110v outlet in cream color". The ?manager shannon insisted that I leave the tools and the wagon at the fron register, but I refused as I was not willing to trust staff with that value in tools. I complained to shannon that the staff could have done better at identifying the correct item, and she said I should have gone down the isle to look. I said there are 2 other hardware stores within a few blocks of Ace, Town and Village around 19th and first, and HnH on first between 14th and 13th. BOTH have been much more helpful than Ace was on this occaision. Makes me want to shop...

I’ve been coming here since I’ve lived in the neighborhood for the past five years. They typically have anything one would need from a household or hardware perspective, including kitchen items. I appreciate that they also have light equipment rentals such as dolly’s since many of us don’t have these items in our apartments.

My only real complaint about this store is the experience can vary wildly from a customer service perspective. Some of the people who work here are so helpful and kind that they are driven to help you get exactly what you need. Others who work here have an awful attitude and act as if they are annoyed by your very presence.

In an age when so much retail shopping is done online and when many of the things sold in this store could be easily purchased through Amazon, local business should be differentiating themselves through superb customer service that inevitably deems them as an essential part of the...
