Dobbin Street Vintage Co-op — Local services in New York

Beware the bait & switch...

The company posted a piece of furniture on Craigslist for a really reasonable price. I responded asking if they still had the piece, and Kalyn (a member of their staff, possibly the owner?) responded a few minutes later confirming that they did indeed have the item and gave me the address. I went in a few days later, didn't see it in the store, so thought maybe it was already sold. So I showed the pic they posted in their ad to the guy working if they had it and asked if they still had it, his response was "is that something we advertised?" I said yes it was posted on Craigslist. He said, "I don't think we've ever had that, maybe it's at our other location in Greenpoint." I take an Uber to the other location, only to be told that's not anything they've had recently by the workers at that location as well.

Annoyed, I send another email asking if they still have it and if so I'll stop by to pick it up right then to Kalyn. She responds "sorry it sold." Would have been believable if staff members from both stores didn't recognize the piece of furniture at all...

It's pretty obvious that they're creating fake postings at great prices to try to lure you in- then when you get there they say it's sold in hopes that you may find something else you like... It's also a common tactic used by shady real estate brokers in the city.

Companies that choose to resort to such unethical business practices leave a bad taste in my mouth....

I was looking for a dresser for my new place and found it here! I badly needed to rescue my poor clothes from being stuck in boxes, and had my heart on a Mid-Century Modern dresser. I found one I loved, used the tape measures available at the counter (!!!) to check dimensions, and bought it! Here is where I messed up. I didn’t check the back of the dresser where it was pushed against the wall. When the third party delivery brought my dresser to the curb I was very surprised to see a giant hole in the back! Luckily, customer service was great. I emailed the store right away and they made things right, since they did know about the hole ahead of time. Lesson learned! Don’t be like me kids, check your second hand goodies from all angles...

Interesting space on a intriguing block. This is the one with the furniture. Some really cool and unique pieces. Definitely has treasures coming through. Can’t say much about any of the staff or co-op’ters because no one said a word to us; but didn’t feel particularly unfriendly. If you’re in the area specifically looking for pieces or just enjoy shopping in thrift vintage styles then it’s worth peaking in. I’d up the star if people were more friendly and welcoming tbh. But my impression stands. Worth visiting if you’re around. The quality of goods when I visited were in great shape! And clean! So it’s certainly worth peaking in .
