Federico Salon & Spa — Local services in New York

I had been going to Federico’s for a number of years and Agnes always did an amazing job with my color. She gave me the same discount as my friend who recommended me. Then, about a few months later, she said I can cut your hair also and she set the price! She also straightened my hair perfectly! I NEVER NEGOTIATED ANY PRICES with her!!!! Before her last trip to Poland, I called to make appointment and found out she was leaving in 3 days. She had never told me about her trip. I spoke to her and texted with her and she said I could go to a place of my choice and gave me the formula or I could go to the salon. Since I do not live near the salon, I went to a local place. When she returned and I went to the salon, Federico told her he was angry I went somewhere else. She then was not nice to me. In fact, when I asked her to fix one part of the hair style, she refused. Then Federico gave me a lecture about his costs that was unprofessional and inappropriate. I was the client; he should only have talked to Agnes. He probably did and Agnes not only refused to tell Federico that she set the prices, but she turned her back on me and would not talk to me!! She was rude and insulting. She set the price for that day much higher without saying anything to me! Federico, at least was a gentleman, and agreed to charge me what I had been paying and would charge the higher prices the next time. There will be no next time! I have never been unnecessarily lectured at by an owner of a salon or snubbed by his employee who had always been lovely to me. Also, beware when Agnes is preoccupied or distracted! Prior to her trip to FL, she cut my bangs (which should not have been cut and she started to brush my hair in a totally different style). It took 3 months for the bangs to grow back! Federico, your inappropriate behavior/lecture to me and Agnes’ rudeness have cost you a loyal, friendly...

I was in town for an event in which husband was receiving an award. Having never been to NY, I had made arrangements for another company to come to my hotel room to do my hair. Well.... that company never showed up! A quick call to Federico's from the concierge at my hotel and they said they could take me.

I arrived (flustered, not doubt, still annoyed by the other company) and was greeted warmly by the woman behind the counter. She led me back to put a cape on, hung my coat up, and directed me to my chair. Next thing I know, I have a glass of wine in my hands! (Awesome!! I sooooo needed a glass of wine!)

My stylist, Ricardo, came over started assessing my hair type/cut/condition and asked what I wanted. I gave a vague description of what I had in mind, but told him I was open to suggestions and he could do what he thinks would be best.

As Ricardo went to work, another stylist who was in-between clients came over & offered to help Ricardo by passing him bobby pins. This happened with 2 other stylists as well as Federico stopping by to see how things were going... This shop's staff all work together helping one another. You can tell they all feel like family & that warmth and wanting what's best for the client is quite evident.

Many bobby pins later, Ricardo stepped back and OMG!!!! My hair was absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!! Ricardo totally nailed it!!! He listened to what I wanted, improvised with what he thought would look best, and at the end- I couldn't have asked for anything better!!!!!

Many thanks to everyone at Federico's that evening! My wine glass was never empty, we had good conversation, and many laughs. I left relaxed and ready for my event.

My biggest regret is that Federico's Salon is a plane trip away from home! I can guarantee you, next time I'm in NY, no messing around with anywhere else... I will be at Federico's to get ready for...
