This is a very fine barbershop indeed! The name, “Gentlemen’s Barbershop”, is very appropriate. It caters to the nostalgic feel of old-school barbershops—A time when men were not in a constant rush as they are today to simply get “a cut”, but rather, when men paid particular attention to their grooming and wanted to treat themselves to a manly “spa moment” with an experienced barber. When you leave, you’ll truly feel like a Gentleman!

The barber (and owner), Mike, is pleasant, laidback, and a bit soft-spoken. He does not pressure you into have an ongoing conversation like other barbers do, but will gladly chat with you regarding any subject should you bring it up. He offers a wide verity of services worthy of the old school Gentlemen’s barber treatment, and uses fine, traditional products. The price for services are comparable to the neighborhood (trendy, “hipster” Williamsburg). You’re not just paying for the actual haircut, shave or trim, but also for the overall experience of a place where you’ll be treated as a Gentleman. Drinks are complimentary while enjoying the services (water, sodas or canned beer). The shop itself is quaint looking with an appealing décor.

What I love most is Mike’s meticulous attention to details. Not just your hair, but also small facial details (like offering to lightly trimming those unsightly stray eyebrow hairs sticking out). He takes his time and never does a “rushed job”. And as a final touch at the very end, he applies a warm towel over your face with his unique scented blend of eucalyptus and mint. It feels blissful on your face and is extremely soothing.

I was on time for my scheduled appointment and so was Michael, making me not have to worry about cutting it close to my next meeting at work during my break. Something I have struggled with is finding a new barber who listens to what you are looking for, even if you ask to change something up mid process. I enjoyed learning more about Michael's 17 years of experience cutting hair in Queens, Manhattan, and finally opening his own shop 5 years ago in Brooklyn- if only I knew I had a gem close by this entire time- If you need a quality cut and need to get in, get out, and get on with your life, leaving with a great experience, good conversation, and walking out looking better than you did walking in within a timely fashion, I'd recommend Gentlemen's Barbershop time and time again.
