PLEASE DO NOT LIVE HERE AND THIS LONG POST IS WORTH READING IF YOU’RE CONSIDERING IT!!
5+ MONTHS UNRESOLVED BED BUG INFESTATION; EXTREMELY PERFIDIOUS RECUSANT MANAGEMENT THAT’S NONCOMPLIANT WITH NEW YORK STATE LAW LANDLORD-TENANT MANDATES; TORMENTFUL LOUD DRILLING SOUNDS 730AM - 4PM EVERY WEEKDAY FOR PAST 3 MONTHS WITH NO ESTIMATED END DATE.
I reported a bed bug infestation in my unit in February 2022, whereby management immediately tried to “blame” me in verbal conversations for the issue. They weren’t aware that neighbors/community members talk I was aware that several other units had bed bugs at the same time as me, including one of the Penthouse units.
Because of a severe medical condition, I requested and needed a heat treatment/green treatment. Management emailed me saying that if I wanted a heat treatment, I would need to pay the $4,000 for itself! For paying $4K/month for a studio, I was amazed this was even suggested. THIS WAS NOT EVEN THE MOST DESPICABLE ACT BY MANAGEMENT (ANNIE). I was asked to complete a medical accommodation form for a green treatment. I completed it immediately and even had my healthcare physician directly email management explaining the severity. The assistant manager, Laura, said it would take time for them to find a company to do the green treatment because their regular vendor (Assure, their typical vendor) did not conduct green treatments.
NOT ONLY DID IT TAKE THEM OVER 2 MONTHS FOR THEM TO ADDRESS THE BED BUG ISSUE, BUT MANAGEMENT SCHEDULED A CHEMICAL TREATMENT FOR MY UNIT AFTER CONFIRMING WITH ME VIA EMAIL 2 DAYS PRIOR IT WOULD BE A GREEN TREATMENT BECAUSE OF MY CONDITION!
When the exterminator FROM ASSURE (the same company management said did not conduct green treatments) arrived to my unit after 2 months of living with the infestation, I asked him to confirm the type of treatment he was conducting and he said it was a CHEMICAL PESTICIDE TREATMENT! The exterminator called his supervisor, Shannon (from Assure) to confirm, whom I spoke to directly, and she said she had the ticket requests from Annie pulled up in front of her, all of which had directed a CHEMICAL TREATMENT!!! HAD I NOT ASKED THE EXTERMINATOR, I WOULD HAVE CAME BACK TO AN APARTMENT WHERE MY HEALTH WOULD HAVE BEEN IN HAZARD! DESPITE MY FORM, PHYSICIAN’S EMAIL, AND 2+ MONTH LIVING WITH THIS. After confronting management, I called and spoke to Shannon again who told me management had called her immediately saying she was not allowed to speak to me/residents directly anymore per Henry hall’s immediate call to her.
FROM A LEGAL STANDPOINT, this intentional deceit and utter negligence for a tenant’s medical condition, coupled with the fact that they DID NOT ABIDE BY NY STATE LAW WHICH STATES. “New York City lists bedbugs as a Class B violation. This means they are considered hazardous. The landlord has 30 days to correct this problem. The landlord must get rid of the infestation and keep the affected units from getting infested again” is grounds for a MASSIVE LAWSUIT.
NOW, ITS JUNE, AND THE BED BUGS ARE STILL PRESENT!!! I never even purchased a new bed in fear that the bed bug issue was not diminished because management handled it extremely poorly, in such an extremely untimely manner AND THEY WONT LET ME CHANGE UNITS!!!!! NOW, the loud tormenting non-stop drilling from since March are have made an already unbearable living condition indescribably more horrific. I am a fully remote working professional. I’ve had numerous complaints from colleagues and clients for the ongoing “noises” during meetings. I’ve genuinely cried the past 2 weeks from not being able to sleep for months from getting bit by bed bugs, not being able to afford going anywhere else while paying $4k/month for this hell hole, and not even being able to get up in the morning without the sound of torturous drilling every...
Read moreI’ve lived in Henry Hall for three years. Here are my thoughts.
-The building is cute, however I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s beautiful. It has that cold, unfeeling Hudson Yards quality that permeates the real estate in that area. -The apartment windows are broad and triple paned, so no outside noise gets in. The floors in the apartments are made from cold pale wood, a trademark of cutting costs in real estate. Be ready to invest in some area rugs. -Each apartment has updated appliances, dishwashers, and in unit laundry. There is an attentive but grossly overworked super named Brian who will take care of anything that goes wrong in the apartment (in the day time, at night you’re on your own), and trust me when I say, things will go wrong. HH is a new and cheap build so there are constantly things breaking within the apartments. -The restaurant may or may not be cursed. In the past three years, One of the waiters entered my closed bedroom and stole a necklace from me while attending a party in my apartment. Two bartenders have died in car accidents. People have gotten fired for being blackout drunk at work, and more recently the manager died in a murder suicide. -On the topic of the restaurant, you’ll be lucky to walk out of there with a bill of 200$ before tip. The service is terrible. Bartenders are creepy and inappropriately flirtatious. The food is okay, but not worth the price. The interiors are a gaudy, modern art deco style you could find looking at any midwestern millenial’s Pinterest board. -The doormen are purely cosmetic. They don’t know anyone’s names, and you’re lucky if you get a nod for a greeting when entering the building. I once witnessed a doorman watch a wheelchair bound resident struggle to open a door for over 30 seconds before walking over to help her. I’ve had strangers led up to my apartment with no warning from the doormen. A serial killer with an axe could be in the lobby asking for me by name and they’d send him right up. -on a positive note, the building has many bathrooms which is handy. However I can’t imagine they’re cleaned very often considering a homeless gentleman was discovered to have been living there for over three months at the beginning of my lease. -Lastly, I feel the neighborhood needs to be mentioned. After having lived there for three years, I think the most accurate way to describe Hudson Yards is corporate and cultural hellscape. It’s a developing area, so most of what you see is the construction of hideous glass monstrosities for the extremely wealthy and tacky to reside. There’s no restaurants or bars (besides the cursed one in HH) and you’re just steps away from Times Square, so you can imagine the human runoff that ends up in Hudson Yards. Then you have the vessel, which is now permanently closed because the amount of people who have thrown themselves from the structure (can you blame them?) The area with the most to do is the local mall or perhaps the two story Whole Foods near by. The neighborhood was rebranded as Hudson Yards after being called the Avenue of Death for decades. I’ll let you do your own research on that one.
Not unlike a downtown transplant clout chaser, Henry Hall attempts to pose as a valuable, worthwhile institution, but once you see past the facade all that’s left is a high class wannabe with no hope of making it in the scene. It doesn’t help that it’s located on what was once called...
Read moreI've been living here since June and I really like this apartment building. Pros: the atmosphere inside the building is very hip and trendy, the rooftop has the most beautiful view of the Hudson River/Hell's Kitchen/Hudson Yards, and there's high-end bars and a restaurant option on the lower level of the building. It is also walking distance to a Duane Reade, the Hudson Yards Mall/Vessel, the Javits Center, a small grocery store, and some restaurants. Cons: the neighborhood it is located in is sub-par. It's located between a busy DHL location and a taxi repair place, across the way is a VERY smelly horse stable, and next to that is a sketchy gentleman's club... it is also far from subway stops so you either have to walk everywhere or order Ubers constantly.
Above is an overview, but my personal favorite aspects of Henry Hall are the lovely view of the Hudson from my apartment (also has great natural sunlight during the day and views of stunning sunsets in the evening), the gym has everything I need for a good workout, the jam room is great for entertaining guests, and MOST IMPORTANTLY.......the impeccable service from the concierge/door man, Kevin. I cannot praise this man enough. He is on top of everything that goes on, he multitasks like no other, he has a relationship of some sort with every person who lives here --I observed that he has memorized everyone's name and unit number...that's huge. As a woman in her mid 20's, I feel very safe here when Kevin is working the front desk. I know I can always count on him. If it wasn't for him I probably would not renew my lease at Henry Hall for...
