Before going to KIDA, I had got my hair cut at a few places in Manhattan and Brooklyn, for similar to slightly higher prices.
I have to admit that I often request very subtle things with my cuts such as slight asymmetry, soft parting, mostly connected yet disconnected in some areas, and certain fade heights and gradient markers. That being said, I realize that I might not always be clear in my requests, but rarely do I leave a place with the exact cut I wanted, which isn't always a knock on the barber and doesn't represent total dissatisfaction from me.
At Kida, I was greeted very kindly by Shin and when explaining what I wanted, he took the time to set the right foundation with my cut to make sure we started things off to my liking, which I greatly appreciated. After that point he did his thing while we had a good conversation. By the end of the cut, I left having the exact cut I wanted for what could be the first time ever. Because of this, I will trust Shin with my hair as long as possible! The attention to detail and not feeling like I was being rushed out for the next person was very nice, and all of the staff was very welcoming and friendly. I'm definitely looking forward to...
Read moreTo be clear, I did not get my hair cut after I made the appointment. However, I had the worst experience I've ever had - and I barely review anything. I had the stylist Mami who was extremely rude and unprofessional. I had given her a few photos and I described to her that unfortunately I couldnt find something with exactly what I wanted but that the photos were basically what I wanted with just a bit more layers on the side. Her attitude was condescending and she basically reprimanded me for not finding any better photos. Then she said ignore the photos and told me to describe to her. I agreed and then described and asked for her opinion on a couple of options (i.e., degree of layering my hair) She then told me very sassily, "I dont have one. I always just give what the client wants." I decided that I did not trust someone who was going to did not care about my hair or have a professional opinion, so I left. I will never go back to this salon and it's a shame because I was really really looking...

I'll admit i showed up 12 minutes late due to my phone dying and getting a bit lost. But it should have been enough time for the simple cut I wanted. instead, I felt I was rushed out with a haircut that upon closer examination was a bit sloppy and riddled with mistakes and a lack of attention to detail.
Obviously, that's not entirely on them, but overall I just wasn't impressed in the slightest and actually had to go elsewhere just to fix what they gave me(a less than 5 minute adjustment which I need to book a full appt slot for). I live in chinatown and not Soho and if i wanted a nice cut I'd go to Mildred in LES instead which at the time of writing this is 60 before tip but well worth the upgrade in detail, service, and consiltation. If I wanted a cheaper, quicker cut I'd pick any number of places in chinatown for less than...
