Good and affordable place for Olympic weightlifting. There's a coach for M/W/F and Tu/Th/Sa. Platforms and bumper plates are pretty worn out; there are some newer bumper plates. On M/W/F: Very approachable coach, good environment if you want to get into weightlifting, everyone is supportive. Ping pong balls coming to the platforms may be annoying to some.
Weight room is relatively small and can get crowded. Dumbbells aren't placed in the proper slots in the rack. There may be some individuals that don't know English and won't understand "can I work in with you?" or "how many sets do you have left?"
Cardio room is medium sized, one long hallway. Some of the equipment is old, some is newer, however they are all usable. At the moment there are two treadmills that are out of service.
There are plenty of small lockers to use in the basement. The basement restrooms could be better taken care of and the shared space to change clothes is limited if there are more than two people changing.
There's a large basketball court upstairs and depending on the schedule, there may be badminton, volleyball, or basketball being played (to my knowledge).
The staff members are generally friendly and helpful. Haven't had a problem...
Read moreI remember how terrific LBHRC was before Covid. I hope these activities, especially basketball and DANCERCIZE, return to energize a better Rego Park. Tell your community board and local councilwoman, Karen Koslowitz, that the building must be replaced. It's about 100 years old at around sea level. Despite the terrific efforts of the staff, management and Parks Department, mold and mildew could easily hurt their customers. Rego means, as many of you know, a Really Good Place to Live. So let's get cracking on this. I heard there were quonset huts in this area before some of the apartment houses were built. As a naturalist, I hope one day that more of our little village reverts to greenery. Perhaps parking lots or rooftops of the towers being built can bloom and use rain conservation techniques. Soon I'm off to the southwest to live, where green corridors and mass transit are bringing us into a future with certified dark skies filled with stars and smokeless factories filled with jobs. I'll pray for Rego Park. God Bless...
Read moreIf it was possible to give it less than one star i would the weight lifting area is tiny everybody is literally on top of each other just to use the machine one of the staff members took it upon herself to go in every locker and remove peoples items because "you dont have a lock on it" so when you ask her where can i keep my items in the meantime until i leave i do not have a lock yet she just reinstate "you supposed to have a lock you cant keep it here your stuff will be thrown out" yet there is a security guard clearly sitting in front of the lockers. Who is going to steal your items when everyone is either in the weight lifting area or exercise room. If there was a sign above i am wrong but i did not see a sign stating you cannot keep items in the locker unless you have a lock. I advise whoever is planning on exercising at this location to travel a little further out for a better experience...
