I feel bad for Miniso after reading all these reviews. We live in New Jersey but first discovered Miniso a month ago in Mexico, both in Mexico City and in Playa del Carmen. Discovering this retail chain was actually the greatest highlight of my kids' trip to Mexico. Quite ironic.
In Mexico, the stores had a high-end, clean, cool feel that differed from all the stores around them. We absolutely loved those stores and spent hours rummaging through all the goods and bought a ton of stuff there. Their stores were always packed and very popular with the solidly middle class / upper-middle class clientele. We loved Miniso so much that we almost missed our flight after discovering that there was an outpost at the airport in Cancun. Of course we shopped some more. Half of our suitcases were packed with Miniso goods when we came back from Mexico.
Much to my surprise, the American Miniso stores position themselves as low-end dollar stores! Their goods are way more curated and more refined than dollar store items. Very underappreciated in the US. I wish Miniso headquarters would read their Google reviews and market themselves differently as a premium / hip lifestyle goods store that happens to also be accessible in pricing, similar to SuperDry. Lure people in with the premium branding and attractive product placement, and then surprise them with low prices. That's how it was in Mexico. We walked in thinking everything would be super expensive but were shocked by how accessible the prices were. But honestly, Miniso has way cooler items than SuperDry. Besides, Miniso licenses a lot of characters from Disney, Universal, etc. I'm sure those companies aren't too interested in partnering with low-end dollar stores. After all, their theme parks are some of the most expensive entertainment venues in the US, and the movies in which those characters were born are very high budget. Correct the marketing / branding / positioning and pay up to hire nice people who care about their jobs, at least in SOHO. It's your US...
Read moreToday was my first time at your store. I drove down to this location because my son saw something he really wanted to buy for his cousin for Christmas. The store was very nice but something I noticed when me and my son first walked in, was that your security person went from moving around the store to standing in front of the exit and keeping an ever so close eye on me and my son. Thank goodness my son didn't notice. Then I thought to myself, this is not something he should ever have to. To add insult to injury, after waiting in line to check out I noticed that your security person held the door for two customers that just checked out before us with a "have a nice day" and when me and my son were leaving we were pointed to the door on the end and were asked for a receipt. Mind you we had just walked all of ten feet from the cashier. I know that I may not be the right color in comparison to your regular customers but today I was made very aware that someone like me is not welcome in your store.
Update: Just tried to email their complaint department and the email bounced back, it...
