Salespeople completely inept. I used to love going to Muji, and appreciated the thoughtful salespeople who would put gifts in a special paper bag with tape for you. Today went in and bought a ton of stationery for a gift, some items on sale. The sale things didn't ring up on sale and the salesperson said they weren't on sale even though there were 20% off signs right in front of him on the bins of product. He said it's not ringing up so it's not on sale, with the most apathetic attitude not the norm for this brand. According to NY office of consumer affairs, stores need to honor the advertised price otherwise they face stiff fines. I asked if they had gift bags and he said 'no' loudly and incredulously, as if I had asked if he could lend me $100. What an attitude!! Then his register froze and he needed to ring up my entire order again. After I paid he grabbed the glassware, stationery, notebooks and threw them into a shopping bag as if they were potatoes. When I opened the bag once outside the store I saw that the 6 notebooks were ruined and a the handle broken off a porcelain mug! Ugh. So dissapointed. At this point I was too frustrated to go back and deal with the rude salesperson. One of the worst retail experiences I've had in a long time. Do not waste your time or money at this store! I recommend 'Absolute Glamour' on Grand St, much nicer salespeople and unique gifts, japanese stationery and super chic clothing. I hope management at this store reads this review and trains their...
Read moreI had a terrible experience at the Muji Williamsburg store on October 14, 2024, around 6:15 PM. After spending nearly an hour picking items, I tried to return a sweater my husband bought (still within the 30-day policy, unworn, with the tag intact). The manager, Christy, refused the return because I didn’t have the original card with me, even though that requirement wasn’t mentioned anywhere. She interrupted me repeatedly, saying, "Muji HQ has their policies, but we have ours."
When I asked for her name to report her behavior, she refused and became more aggressive. I felt unsafe. I believe her behavior was racially motivated, as I’m a Latina woman of color with an accent. Christy even threatened to call the police and falsely claimed I was being "aggressive," despite me staying calm throughout.
This experience was humiliating and disappointing. I’ve always loved Muji, but this behavior from someone in a leadership role is unacceptable. I hope Muji addresses this issue because no customer should be...
