I went here the other day with tony and heres my experience. There was a sad emotionally deflated man who appeared to be in moderate pain sitting alone in a booth. While we waited in a decently long line (6 minutes or more) the man would occasionally burp painfully. very sad. When i got my cream it was 7 dollars and was very so small. I said what the heck and decided i wouldnt request a refund this time. I left and was eating with tony, walking down the street. When we got to my car I got incredible diarreah. I tried to pretend I didnt, and ignore it by keeping my mind distracted in other realms. discussing current events with tony. the more i tried though, the stronger each wave came, constantly alarming me and causing emotional distress. Tony saw through my forced grin (it must have looked pretty worried, like whne youre grinning but your eyebrowns are pointed in that worrying shape still and your sweating) He said whats the matter. i thought, hmm do i say i have incredible diaareah or do I stay in lala land and pretend everythings fine. I keep driving and pretending to enjoy our play date, but then a strong wave came on and i let out an involuntary yelp sound. alarming tony. it was at this point i realized i must face the fax and admit I do infact have a problem. and it was an emergency. after going over my situation with tony, we decided i must use his bathroom since he lilved closer than me (this was a big deal, as I had not yet met tony's mom) through a torturous journey of screaming and high pitched weeping, i made it in front of tonys. I had to burst into his home and violently slam my pants off and violently slam onto the toiet with a really loud sound. Tony's mom saw me blaze past in probably almost a blur to her (shes old and slow) and was very scared, as tony had not entered yet and did not explain to her he would have a guest over. i heard a very scared commotion coming from the living room as tonys mom was gasping at tony for healp to deal with the intruder. luckily this commotion covered the really bad sound of my defecant. I DID clog tonys mons...
Read moreEvery ice cream shop serves scoops of joy, but Van Leeuwen in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, offers more than that - they provide an experience. For anyone hesitant about braving the typical line that forms around the block, let me assure you - it is worth the wait.
Van Leeuwen's repertoire of unique and mouthwatering flavors is consistently tantalizing. Despite the myriad options, my heart (and taste buds) have pledged allegiance to one particular flavor – the vegan Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie. It's a revelation of sweetness, the perfect blend of rich chocolate and delicious chunks of fudgy brownie, all crafted without a drop of dairy. This gem is more than an ice cream flavor; it's an expression of the mastery and culinary wizardry at Van Leeuwen.
The ambiance at Van Leeuwen provides a perfect backdrop for indulging in their exquisite ice cream. The atmosphere is inviting, an effortlessly cool and laid-back vibe that encapsulates the spirit of Williamsburg. Whether you're enjoying your ice cream inside or taking a walk around the neighborhood, Van Leeuwen makes it better.
Of course, a review would not be complete without a mention of the service. Given the ceaseless popularity of the place, the staff does an admirable job of managing the crowd. They maintain a brisk pace, without compromising on their warm, friendly customer service. It's a well-oiled machine that succeeds in satisfying the most impatient sweet tooth.
So if you find yourself in Williamsburg, make your way to Van Leeuwen. Brave the line, pick your poison (I recommend the vegan Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie), and enjoy an unforgettable ice cream experience. It's not just about getting a scoop of ice cream; it's about savoring every bite of a lovingly created...

My date and I really wanted some ice cream after our romantic walk on the Pier. We were in the Seaport area and it looked like everything was closed. It was around 11:15 p.m. maybe... We googled nearby Ice cream shops and Van Leeuwen was amongst the first! Open til 12 A.M.
As soon as you enter, to your right is a rainbow plethora of ice cream pints in all different flavors on display. As you get closer to the ice cream bar, to your right are the flavors and prices. They had plenty of vegan options, which I loved although I'm no vegan! But the light, fluffy airiness of vegan ice cream makes for a good midnight snack without the guilt. 😉
There are three sizes if you get a cup. They also have Waffle Cones. I got the 3 scoop size. My date went with 2 scoops. You can mix 2 flavors so of course we did. I went with two vegan options: Vanilla Almond Chip and Cookies and Cream Caramel Swirl. Yum. My date went with the dairy filled Salted Caramel and mixed it with the Vegan Cookies and Cream. They were both good. Perfect end to our night.
The ONLY thing was the service. It wasn't the greatest. There was no communication. Before we even made a decision the girl at the counter already had a medium cup in one hand and ice cream scoop in the other. She didn't ask what size we wanted or if we might even want a waffle cone. She just made the decision for us. I guess it's the size most people get but it made it awkward asking for a different size; which is what I ended up doing.
All in all, good ice cream. Open late nights. Tell them what you want or else they'll give you...
