I went in with my 3 year old today. It was our first time there. The store was not busy at all. I was one of two customers. My assumption is that children in toy stores can play with certain toys (with adult supervision). So my daughter proceeded to play with a small ball and I even encouraged her to see how it worked by dropping it from a low height. The lady at the cash register rudely said to us that it wasn’t the “bouncing kind” and after hearing her tone of voice, we place the ball back after explaining to my daughter what type of ball the label said it was, and we kept browsing. I definitely felt her watching our every move which made for an uncomfortable shopping experience. My daughter a few minutes later, found a little banana toy car. We both looked at it and, as one does, she wanted to see if it rolled on the floor. As she starts to roll it on the floor, that same employee quickly snapped at us by saying “Oh. No toys on the floor”. I am unsure if this is store policy or if the employee working is in the wrong field of work. Parents and their children go to toy stores and want to see how toys work. Nothing novel about that. As a parent shopping in a kids store, I ask my child to return the items to their original location, as well as respect and be gentle with others property. I am still trying to process this experience. What could possibly possess someone to open up a toy store and have such obnoxious rules. I won’t be returning here and I’ll be sure to tell friends visiting to not...
Read moregotta love when people who are “married to people of color” or are “friends with people of color” can tell people of color how they feel or how they’re allowed to feel. Also as for being the most stroller friendly store in brooklyn. I’m sure every stroller owning mother can attest to the opposite. Instead of just apologizing for an unpleasant experience you decided to attack every point I made as if my feelings were invalid. As for leaving my sleeping daughter in the front of the store while I scan the back- I didn’t feel comfortable doing that as there were others also navigating the very small space but thanks for telling me what to do with my child :) Congrats I wasn’t coming back before and I’m definitely not now!** Been in here a few times. Was feeling iffy about it as it made me feel a little watched and uncomfortable as I often might feel as a black woman shopping. Today was the final straw when okay whatever had to drop my drink off at the front but then was told I couldn’t bring my stroller to the back bc I’d push everything….I’ve brought my stroller to the back before and never had an issue…also for a children's/baby store that’s pretty inconvenient and not very mother-friendly. At that point I just left bc it’s not worth it when everything they sell can be bought online cheaper. Won’t be going back. If you’re a children’s store accommodate children and mothers!!!!!!!especially mothers with sleeping babies in...
Read moreAfter being told I could exchange an item, the owner yelled at me in front of other patrons and claimed I was lying. I could careless about the exchange but the very rude treatment was deeply unappreciated. I called in advance letting them know I wanted to exchange gift that was brand new with tags. I gave them the product name and number on the tag mentioning that I would be coming an hour commute in order to visit the store. After double checking that this would be ok, the woman on the phone said it was no problem but when I arrived the owner started by yelling “No!” and in general was incredibly rude. She tried to embarrass me after saying that I didn’t speak to anyone at the store and won’t do anything. She mentioned there were four people at the store who worked there but even though she didn’t ask all of them, she repeated that I did not speak to them. It was so inappropriate that I didn’t even press her to check with the other employees after she claimed to call one. I can’t believe (especially at the holidays) that someone speaks to customers that way in front of...
