I started exploring barre workouts last year after a friend and I did one together. I moved recently and started looking around for studios to try and saw Pure Barre offered their Foundations class for free for newcomers. I enjoyed the format, the energy from the instructor (Alice) and her openness in helping me learn the terminology and their associated movements (tuck!). I decided to sign up for a 4 credit monthly membership, which allows you to sign up for a class once a week, which is perfect for me!
One of my favourite things about PB is that once you're in the studio and the class has started, you forget about everything else outside of that room - instead, you are completely focused on improving your form, losing your mind in the physical challenge as you build strength and balance. My posture has improved and I incorporate the stretches and warmups in my other workouts when I'm not at the studio. All of the instructors I've had so far at this studio are also so eager to help you achieve your goals, whether it's learning the terms, perfecting your form, or altering the exercise to customize the challenge for you so that you can enjoy PB fully.
I'm still very new to PB, having only taken 6 classes, but it's been a great form of exercise and something that I actually look forward to doing. Highly recommend you coming in to just try the Foundations class... who knows, you...
Read moreI have been during pure barre for about seven months now and it is the only workout that has actually shown me a real change. This is the perfect toning class for someone who is looking for a change from cardio etc. This is also one of the workouts that I actually look forward to daily to because of the positive vibes and attitudes of the staff. They address you by name and remember it and give shout outs during class which makes a huge difference. Pure barre has changed my life positively mentally and physically in ways that no other workout has. Upper east side studio is the second studio I have taken class at and they have been amazing and extremely welcoming with great instructors.
Pure barre has come out with a new class called pure empower, which is a cardio focused class. I took my first class last week and am already addicted! It's the perfect way to burn a large amount of calories and really sweat it out. It's similar to platform - you use the platforms but also quite different and much better. There are two pounds weights that you wear around your arms and then around your legs in the second half of the workout, which is extremely challenging but results in an amazing workout. This is a great class for when you are looking for a change with a fast paced cardio based workout. And it goes by...
Read moreI'm a huge fan of Barre classes and their their abilities to transform a body, but this is by far the worst Barre class in NYC. Not does their instruction leave a lot to be desired, as in there is no instruction unless you know what their lingo means, and have had some one on one with an instructor who can teach you the moves that will most likely end up with you having some sort of injury. Which brings me to their less than ballet like moves! the only thing resembling Ballet in their choreography is putting your heels together toes out! that's it ladies! Don't worry about small and almost non existent space for shower/changing/bathroom facilities, because honestly you won't need it given the little you sweat in this class! save yourselves money time, and energy! Oh warning to all!!!! do not sign up on wait list as they generally upgrade you to class late in the day and if you don't see their email in time, or if you do and can't make their class they will still charge you a late cancellation fee! doesn't matter how late in the day they upgraded you. Can we say CUSTOMER SERVICE! If I could rate these people a negative I would! never do this but have to warn consumers of this scam of a...
