I grew out my hair for 6 months for a very special (hopefully) once in a lifetime event. I showed the barber two photos of what I wanted with the top basically being long hair. He looked closely at both photos and said he could do it. He cut off all of my (what he called) "beautiful hair" with almost no resemblance to the photo. He was so amazed by all of the hair he had cut off at the end and pointed it out on the floor saying that I still had even more on my head. One side of my head is a mullet (not even sure how this is possible on only one side), which I can assure you is nothing like the photos I showed him. I was in such shock when leaving the place I didn't even have words - I just smiled, paid and left. Do not be deceived by the name of this place - there was no scotch offered like other places with a similar name. He was very nice and his little helper was adorable. Alex is truly one of a kind. I have been going to the same barber for over thirty years but just recently moved to the UES (lifelong NY'er, relocating to Manhattan for work) and at first, struck out NUMEROUS times with other barbers in the area.

When I discovered Alex's shop nearby, I said to myself "what the hell, at least it's closer than the other locations I tried in the past!" Well, I'm glad I did. Alex is an excellent conversationalist (a dying art in today's world) and actually LISTENS to you regarding what you want done with your hair. I also greatly admire that his shop is extremely clean, organized, and of course, stocked with excellent espresso and scotch.
