I had long straight hair pretty much all my life despite having textured hair due to the fact that I had been relaxing and getting Japanese magic perm since I was five years old. Just recently I had an epiphany that I never even knew what my real hair that grows naturally out of my head is supposed to look like. I had a year and couple months of growth since the last time I straightened my hair and that's when I decided to go on a journey to embrace my natural curls. I decided to go with this place because of all the great reviews it had and its proximity to my apartment. I'll be honest, I knew I wasn't going to come out of the appointment with a haircut I loved because of the awkward stage my hair was in having curly hair on top with some straight hair hanging at the bottom. What I didn't expect is how well Nana listened to my story and adapted herself to my mixed-textured hair and produced a presentable transitional haircut that I was still proud of. I got a haircut from Mayuu and it was a great experience. I've never been so happy with a haircut. I was delayed in getting there and they were very kind and understanding. The salon has a warm vibe and cool decor. The staff are all friendly, nice, and professional. Mayuu and I went over the photos of the cut I wanted and we discussed the look, what she would do, and how much it would be. The communication was great. She understood what I wanted so perfectly and knew just how to achieve it. The whole process was smooth and pleasant (great wash, nice complimentary tea, efficient cut). Mayuu is an amazing stylist, she's clearly very knowledgeable and has great recommendations, but doesn't make any assumptions, she really makes sure you're comfortable and on the same page. I've consistently gotten haircuts with Nana at Room Salon for 2 years now and every morning I wake up totally satisfied with my hair (I just add some natural oils, no styling needed), even months after the cut. In fact, the 3-month period between getting a haircut from elsewhere while traveling and going back to Nana to fix it was a miserable time for me. Although it's a relatively simple haircut (long, wavy layers), Nana always takes her time to carefully go through each part and sometimes trim strand by strand (despite my massive amount of hair) for added precision. She'd check how certain parts of the hair fall, make recommendations, and ask if I'm okay with it before she proceeds. A good haircut would compliment your hair texture, and Nana knows exactly how to bring out my soft waves. I just cannot find that level of care and conscientiousness anywhere else, and it's totally worth the price...
