Great food for solid value! This is a new restaurant so there are some kinks that probably still need to be ironed out.
The good: The food! We ordered the pad kee mao and the kaa moo which were both excellent and well portioned.
The bad: The atmosphere of the restaurant is nicely decorated, but it has too many tables. We had the indoor window seat. There is a large table in the middle of the room so the walking aisle brushes very close to anyone seated in the middle of the restaurant. Anytime the waitress helps any table, they pass within millimeters of you, which feels uncomfortable especially for a restaurant that isn’t even full (middle table was empty). Also, there were a few hiccups with the various “just opened” deals that they have going on. They sent coupons (use by 9/31/24) around the neighborhood promoting a free iced tea & 5% off for dine in but when I tried to use it, there was some confusion. There was a language barrier but the waitress first said it was no longer valid. There was a back and forth for some uncomfortable minutes: when I showed the expiry date she then said it was a choose one, thai iced tea or 5% off (when the coupon clearly says “and”). I said ok no problem, we’ll do the iced tea, but at this point the interaction already felt plenty awkward (who wants to negotiate for discounts at dinner?). Food and dinner was great but then when the bill came it was made even more awkward by the waitress asking us to write a review for a 10% off discount (not sure they’re gonna be happy with this one haha) AND the bill coming with the thai iced tea on it. Things got sorted out in the end, but running these various promotions with language barriers was quite uncomfortable as a diner. Hoping they get everything sorted out with their team so future diners don’t run into situation.
All in all the food was great so will probably be ordering take-out again at some point, but it’ll probably be a while until I’d dine in again. They’ve got room to improve but rooting for the new...
Read moreAs someone who lived in Bangkok (but not Thai) and misses the food that we used to get there, this is the first time that I left Thailand and I felt like I was having authentic Thai food.
Sure, there are a ton of Thai restaurants out there in NYC area, but they all have the same things on the menu, which doesn’t include some of the dishes we used to absolutely enjoy when we were living there. For example, my husband was delighted to find out that they have Kaa Moo. No Thai restaurant that we’ve tried in the area had it. And the flavor? Omg!!! It’s as if we went back to Thailand!!!!
Som tum as well. This is the most authentic som tum I’ve had since we left Thailand. So delightful!! 🤩
Btw, I was shocked that they use real hearty crab meat for their crab meat dishes. The price is so great considering the high end ingredients!!! And the food tastes amazing at such a reasonable price point!!! 😍😍
Thank you for opening this sweet little spot!! We will return soon. 🥰 Please stay open forever and please open up locations in Manhattan...
Read moreI recently visited The Am-Thai and had a mostly enjoyable experience. The food was delicious, with authentic flavors and generous portions. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in their craft, and everything I tried was well-prepared and flavorful.
The vibe of the restaurant was pleasant—cozy, inviting, and perfect for a casual meal or a laid-back dinner. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy some good Thai cuisine.
However, the service left a bit to be desired. Unfortunately, my server seemed to have forgotten about me at times. While it wasn’t a deal-breaker, it did take away from an otherwise solid dining experience.
Overall, The Am-Thai has great food and a nice atmosphere. With a bit more attentiveness from the staff, this could easily become a top-notch spot. I’d still recommend giving it a try if you’re in the mood for some tasty...
