Was visiting as a tourist and had an unfortunate experience at this school. I was with my elderly mother and urgently needed to use the restroom. We approached the front desk security to ask if there were any public facilities available, and instead of a polite response or simple explanation of policy, one of the guards, a middle aged woman who looks puerto-rican, immediately raised her voice and snapped, “ABSOLUTELY NOT! I DON’T KNOW WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST COME IN HERE AND ASK THAT!” Where I’m from, schools don’t have this kind of heavy security presence at the entrance, so the environment already felt intimidating. But what really shocked me was the hostility. We weren’t trying to cause trouble, just two out-of-state visitors in a moment of need. As tourists, we contribute to New York’s economy—our money supports local businesses, transportation, and attractions.
