Small modern hall (renovated and opened for music performances in 2003) below ground level at Carnegie Hall. The performance we went to (Ensemble Intercontemporain) was very well attended. Good acoustics where we were on the mezzanine level, occasionally a soft rumble from the subway is audible. Chairs are normal for most of the hall except for in the mezzanine side wings they are oddly high up, like bar stools (probably for better visibility of the stage).
Overall nice performance space, ambiance very much like a university lecture hall. A bit of a shame the world class ensemble we heard was relegated here rather than the historic main auditorium, but probably to be expected given the repertoire...

I attended a cello and piano recital here, and the experience was incredible. The staff was friendly, everything was well-organized, and the atmosphere felt both elegant and inviting. It’s a smaller, more modern space compared to the main Carnegie Hall auditorium, but it still carries that iconic Carnegie charm.

In this one, unfortunately, the music is being constantly disrupted by noise and vibrations from the nearby subway station (the hall is situated at the lower levels of the Carneggie). Just unacceptable and a reason to avoid in future performances.
