Blue Swan is quite literally my favorite place on earth! My special âHappy Placeâ to share and meet new friends! I have been climbing for 17 years now and this is the best gym I have ever been to. My favorite part is how safe I feel when I climb here. Safety first by having all routes fully color coded handholds, top tier crash padding below all climbing walls, and most of all âdown climbingâ jugs set between all of the âtop outsâ finishes of the individual boulder problems so you can easily and safely descend from the climb after you h e completed your assent to the top. This saves my âold manâ knees and greatly reduces the chance for all lower body injuries and sprains. The members are an eclectic group of awesome and supportive sportsmen who always put out positive energy and work together to make sure everyone has a fun and safe time when attempting their new personal bests! I live 4 hours away and travel up at least once a month to share in the joy of my favorite anaerobic activity with new friends. Last time I visited the desk manager Sugaru blessed me with a discounted day pass because I showed up 45min before they closed on a Saturday mistaking their weekend hours for their weekday hours. He even let me climb for a few min after had personally clocked out for the night. What a great experience that was. I always leave Blue Swan feeling rejuvenated in my soul! Thanks so much,...
Read moreIt's definitely a 5* climbing gym. That being said there are a few things that are rough that are not necessarily within Blue Swan's control.
Firstly, the parking is some of the worst in the city. $2/hr and they WILL ticket you if you don't pay. They need to offset this for members for this to be a sustainable option.
One other thing that can be bothersome are definitely the crowds. The most recent comp was ridiculous they only closed half the gym presumably to still milk out day passes to the (disgruntled) Sat folks.
Something else I will add is that the lighting inside the gym is extraordinarily bright. It almost feels like you're at the dentist. This isn't ideal to me, but sometimes they make up for it by opening the garage door to allow natural light in.
I recommend Blue Swan. It offer a safe, clean, and friendly environment to climb. They offer fresh coffee, some snacks, and a decent fitness area if you need to do other workouts here. There are a few setbacks that could make membership a tough commitment, but overall it is a good gym.
Edit: going to post an edit based on how poorly the most recent comp was put together. It felt totally like...
Read moreHonestly, the climbing scene in Orlando has taken a real nose dive. The original aiguille (RIP) was $37.50/mo, had 40+ foot top roping, an entire area for sport climbing, and yoga. Plus it didnât feel so sterile and corporate. I still climb at BSB because somehow the feel of a âdirtbag climber gymâ somehow is still there. Must be the staff. And the routes are well set. I think Blue Swan doesnât have to be what it is, and with High Point coming in, Blue Swan is going to have to change, and build higher. Put some rope walls in, and some legitimate weights would be a good step. And let dogs in. Jesus every gym out west allows dogs as long as their on a leash and are well mannered/wonât pee everywhere. Half the reason I donât come in as often as Iâd like is because I have a dog that waits all day for me to come home from work. Finally, it has to be said - either charge less or get the parking situation fixed, because $70/mo is bad enough without also having to pay...
