I’d like to start by saying I tried to address my terrible experience at this restaurant directly with the restaurant by emailing two different emails provided on their website but it’s been almost 3 weeks with zero response so I’ve decided to share my experience here so that other people can proceed with caution before dining here.
I’ll try to condense this as much as possible. To start off it was a slow Monday evening yet half the tables were covered in dirty dishes that weren’t bussed or cleaned during our entire almost two hour visit unless guests asked to sit specifically at those tables.
We ordered appetizers, my mom ordered mussels and as she started to eat them she realized that basically half of the shells were still closed which can signify the mussels are either no good or undercooked. My mom sent them back and asked for something else completely as she has gotten seriously ill from undercooked seafood in the past and it just wasn’t worth the risk. A gentleman came out a while later with another bowl of mussels explaining that they ordered a different type this week and their chef is used to a shorter cooking time so they just needed to be cooked a little longer and insisted we try them and that they were on the house and he’d still send out the replacement appetizer. As I mentioned, my mom has gotten seriously ill from seafood in the past so she was not going to risk it. I tried the mussels so they wouldn’t go to waste only to realize that 1/4 of the mussels were, once again, still closed. We continue to wait for the replacement appetizer only for the server to come by a while later asking if we still wanted the replacement appetizer since the mussels were remade. My mom said yes as she was not comfortable eating the mussels and was promised the replacement appetizer by the previous gentleman so we were unsure while we were still being asked this. We finally got her appetizer 40 minutes into our visit.
Unsurprisingly we didn’t get our entrees until over an hour into our visit. My mom and I ordered the exact same entree, the lamb lollipops. I’m unsure how many lamb chops they were supposed to come with but hers came with 5 and mine only came with 4, I was hoping it was just because it was by weight or something but her 5 were also bigger than mine so unfortunately just a quality control issue. At this point I was so frustrated and sick of waiting around that I didn’t even mention this and just asked for boxes because I just didn’t want to be there anymore. I think the cherry on top was finding out the dessert my mom had already ordered at the beginning of the evening was sold out but it wasn’t mentioned until it was time to get the dessert to-go at the end of the evening. There were several other small instances where the service fell short but I just wanted to touch on the most frustrating parts. The sad part is the food was actually pretty good but with this service experience I will most likely never come back and will just make the trip to Tarpon Springs for good Greek food. Hopefully this was just a one-off but it was definitely one of the worst service experiences...
Read moreMy partner and I wanted to try out a new place that was available on the Magical Dining list so we gave this place a try!
Overall we had a negative experience and we likely won’t be returning.
We learned that on Sundays there is a DJ playing EDM music (very loudly) directly outside of the restaurant in the courtyard which very much took away from our dining experience. I could feel the bass in my chair and every few minutes someone would walk in from outside to order a drink from the bar. I would not recommend eating here on Sunday evenings from 6-8pm.
Regarding the service, I will say that the general manager is very nice and wants to make sure guests have a good experience. If I had found a moment alone with him I may have provided this feedback in person, but every time he checked on us there were other staff around including our waiter.
We were sat fairly quickly and our waiter took our order swiftly as well. Where I think there was miscommunication was that we were visited by two other members of the staff asking if we had been waited on yet after we had already been taken care of (about a few minutes after one another). It got repetitive and a little annoying. Additionally, when I unwrapped my silverware, the inside of the paper napkin was stained and the silverware was dirty. The table didn’t look like it was thoroughly cleaned either.
For magical dining, we chose the calamari and Spanakopita for our appetizer, the lamb and steak for the entree, and the baklava cheesecake and honey cake for dessert.
The calamari is fairly basic and my only recommendation would be to give guests lemon slices to go with it along with some additional sauce on the side. In retrospective I would’ve rather gotten the sampler instead. The spanakopita was good and we would get it again.
We asked for the lamb to be medium rare and for the steak to be medium. Most of the steak came out as medium rare and one piece looked a lot more rare than the others (which we didn’t eat). The lamb came out as medium/medium-well but I didn’t want to return the food and wait for it to be brought back so we kept what we had been given.
For the dessert, the baklava cheesecake was more like traditional baklava (in my opinion) so I don’t think the description is too accurate for this item. I still enjoyed the dessert but I was expecting something different/new. The honey cake was delicious and enjoyable.
I’m not entirely sure I would pay $40 for a three course meal here again. For the quality of the food and the service I think $30 is a bit more...
Read moreTucked downtown with a convenient parking right next to the restaurant. We were seated at the bar and while the bar stools were super comfortable the service lacked urgency and timeliness. We were greeted warmly by Noelle and The menus were provided promptly. We ordered the appetizer sampler - a must try - the hummus is creamy and tasty, the tzatziki is delicious and the feta cheese dip is out of this world. The ouzo mussels are absolutely amazing and I finished every single one of them and dipped the sauce dry. The honey cake - YES! The main course though was a total disappointment - we had the lamb lollipops - medium - some were overdone, some were rare, they were chewy and overall inedible. The NY strip kebob - same thing - too rare and chewy. My dish was exchanged for the chicken Rhodes - which was better. However, I was charged for both dishes even though I took one bite of the lamb lollipops and returned it right away. The drinks came late when we were in the middle of the main course and our waters were never refilled. There were just three other couples sitting at the bar so not being able to order drinks or to get water when it wasn't even busy was a bit weird. The kitchen manager TJ came out to apologize for the unfortunate dishes and when I alerted him about the extra charge he mentioned that they will take it off. However the bartender was nowhere in sight and we waited over 20 minutes for us after the checks were presented and we still couldn't get someone to help us get it right. We ended up leaving in the end with the check still wrong and determined not to come back. To think we went to Acropolis so I can introduce my friend to Greek cuisine... and to have this experience - it was a disaster...and she...
