First of all, I love Macy's. It has good clothing and accessories to choose from with amazing sales to get them. HOWEVER, I have just discovered a flaw within the store's rewards system.
Last week, I went with a family member to return some accessories. Some background: she's a Platinum Star Rewards member that chooses Macy's as her go-to store for the holidays.
Anyway, we go to the accessories register to return two things. At first it's the normal schtick; slide card, scan receipt, yada-yada-yada. Then we noticed on the touch screen that the returned amount was $10 less than what my family member purchased on the receipt. Thinking it was a mistake, we pointed it out . The person helping us then called a manager/supervisor to clear it up.
Apparently, if you participate in specific sales; i.e spending $50 to get a $10 gift card, the reward points (understandable) and the earned reward (gift card) can be taken back regardless if it's been redeemed later for a different purchase.
So you can complete the terms of getting a $$ reward, but if later down the line (weeks later) you decide to return something from that purchase that held the values fulfilling this reward, Macy's will take it back by subtracting from the refunded amount of the returned item.
We were shocked at this. We never had this problem in the past. (I guess we didn't need to return anything those times because apparently this has been going on for a few years.)
We asked what if this was a gift and the recipient was returning it with a gift receipt? Answer: the same thing as listed above. Unbelievable. So now it isn't just the original purchaser being punished but those seeking to return a gift for something different? Those who received it as a gift would also be getting a depreciated amount of the original item price on the receipt.
Wow... Just, wow. Currently, my family member is rethinking continuing shopping at this store and she's been a member for well over 25 years.
I expected this underhandedness from Kohl's Cash rewards (iykyk), not from Macy's. They need to rethink this part of their rewards system because it greatly affects customer loyalty.
Be careful shoppers. If you see a sale with rewards in dollar values, it might be best to opt out of the cash reward if there's a possibility you might return the purchases for any reason. Or ask beforehand if they'll take the earned cash reward out of your purchased price if you return it since the supervisor/manager did inform us that this only happens with "specific reward sales/...
Read moreYesterday, my mother and I were interested in purchasing some fragrances, and we talked to several workers in that department. We visited the men's fragrances first, and the sales lady was kind and helpful. She let us know that a sale was beginning tomorrow for 15% off, and that we could buy it presale to pick up later, or just return when the sale begins. However, when we went to the women's department, the sales Lady "Ruby" tried to scam my mother. She said if my mother didn't purchase the perfumes today (9/20/23), she would miss the sale, that it was the "last day" to get 15% off. Ruby had the audacity to make that claim boldly, despite signs on the counter advertising a "presale". My mom pointed this out, and shared what the other sale lady had said, and Ruby argued: "no, the sale for the women's fragrances are different". So my mother proceeded to ask about the prices, telling her she doesn't get paid until Friday, Ruby went on to say "well when you buy it today, you have to pick it up tomorrow". My mother said "that makes no sense if the sale is today and the sale ends today why I have to pick it up tomorrow"... Yeah, the woman was a liar. She said she works specifically for Marc Jacobs - I don't think Macy's should have her working there. She isn"t just self serving, but an example of a dishonest salesman. Bring...
Read moreThis was my 1st time in Macy's in 4 years, as I boycott them due to their horrible credit card SCAMS, over billing and subsequent "add on fees" to extort money from Customers.. I will say this though, the Customer Service was Exceptional this 1st visit back. Be on your Guard: always keep your Receipts..Especially on Returns!! Document Peoples names & TIMES you deal with. ESPECIALLY if returning items, NEVER think you are done UNTIL it's off your Statement. I had zeroed out ANY balance. They failed to acknowledge a $39 return.. it stayed on what I KNEW was a Zero Balnce Card..so why check the statement..RIGHT?! Nope.. they Never took it off, continued to add interest AND late fees as I didn't know they had NOT taken the return off.. it was on there. Even with a TINY $100 CARD they'll mount up to $101 so they can then change "over the limit" fees ..AGAIN, ON A ZERO BALANCED CARD!! I had no reason to check..I thought. Uhhuh..at $200 I was in shock at what they'd done..so it's the Little bits they steal from Unsuspecting Customers. Moral to the story: NEVER TAKE THEIR "MACY'S CARD"!! (The truly SICK part is the credit company they use KNOWS they do this..the Service Agent kept apologizing to me as she took my money..she said they do that...
