I am writing this review out of deep concern and heartbreak over the care—or lack thereof—that my family has received at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital while my brother-in-law remains in critical condition.
From the start, our experience with the staff has been marked by a shocking lack of compassion, professionalism, and basic human decency. Calls to the floor are frequently met with curt, dismissive responses. Staff routinely answer the phone and place callers on hold without warning or explanation. Most do not introduce themselves—you have to ask their name, and even then, they’re hesitant to give it.
This morning, when I called for a medical update, I spoke with Olivia on Floor 3, who placed me on hold without asking and simply told me to call back in an hour. There was no care, no kindness—just indifference, as if I was an inconvenience rather than a grieving family member trying to understand what was happening to my loved one.
Perhaps most distressing of all, my brother-in-law’s elderly parents drove over 4.5 hours after being told their son may not survive the night. They arrived desperate to see him—only to be turned away because it was after visiting hours. No effort was made to accommodate them, despite the urgent nature of the situation. The hospital knew they were coming. The family followed the instructions they were given. And still, they were left standing outside a room that held their dying son.
This experience has left us not only grieving but deeply disturbed by the hospital’s failure to treat people with empathy. We expect medical expertise, yes—but also humanity. What we encountered instead was cold bureaucracy, poor communication, and a painful disregard for people walking through some of life’s most fragile moments.
Frankly, I believe this hospital’s patient care practices warrant a formal investigation. The way families are treated here is unacceptable, unethical, and frankly, embarrassing. It is alarming to think that licensed professionals could demonstrate so little concern for the emotional and spiritual well-being of patients and their loved ones.
We are praying and trusting God in the middle of this—but I felt it necessary to speak out. No family should be made to feel like they are a burden while their loved one lies on...
Read moreI was brought in the University of Pittsburgh medical center in the emergency room. The emergency room nurses had amazing bedside manner . I was transferred to the 8th floor for two days where the nurses and the doctors exceptional patient care and were so nurturing understanding and empathetic to everyone of my needs. I was transferred to the cardiac floor the nurses and doctors on the cardiac floor went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable stress-free and well taken care of. Floor 8 Christine and Richard were so incredible with bedside Manner and taking care of any questions or concerns that I had. On the cardiac floor natalie and Riley are the definition of an exceptional spectacular knowledgeable nursing team. They went above and beyond the scope of Nursing. They were such great listeners they had such great knowledge their personalities were incredible and they made sure every need of mine was taken care of with such a sense of urgency in such a sense of caring that I would recommend uPMC to anybody with any health issues. I give floor 8 and floor nine of UPMC 10 out of 10 Stars in would highly highly suggest that if you want some of the best nurses and doctors in Pennsylvania to use this facility....
Read moreI have two MD's in the family. Every time I walk in to this DO assigned to me, he wants medical testing done. I feel like I am being sold as a commodity to other area practitioners. Most documentation do not reflect what happened during the appointment and I read and print everything. And their billing practice is sketchy at best. I hate it. I am looking for a an MD well trained in medicine. This...
