I’m sharing my personal experience as a former employee and tenant because the public deserves to know what really goes on.
While working for Pete’s Market at 513 SW 4th Avenue in Portland, Oregon, and living at a property owned by the same individual, I experienced serious labor violations, unsafe conditions, and retaliatory treatment, including:
– Unlawful termination and unexplained wage reductions – Wage manipulation — including delayed payments that carried over to the next pay period – Chronic understaffing that made legally required breaks impossible – Hazardous working conditions in one of the most dangerous parts of downtown Portland – No on-site security, despite police being called frequently for safety issues – Multiple overdose incidents where employees, including myself, had to call ambulances and assist – Electricity and water shut off at my home — retaliatory, unlawful, and illegal under Oregon housing law – I was unlawfully locked out of my home – Ongoing retaliation after raising safety, wage, and housing concerns
I showed up every day under unsafe and unpredictable conditions — doing far more than what was expected of me — to protect the store, the owner's assets, and his public image. This is how I was treated in return.
This pattern is not new. In 2015, the business owner, David Emami, was ordered to pay $512,290 in unpaid wages and damages to 33 workers after being caught in a payroll scheme to avoid paying overtime. This was publicly reported by The Oregonian/OregonLive (source).
I have filed formal complaints with: – BOLI (Bureau of Labor & Industries) – Multnomah County Circuit Court – Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office And I am actively pursuing every legal remedy available.
These are not assumptions — they are facts based on my lived experience.
If you are considering working for or renting from this business or its owner, document everything, protect yourself, and know your rights.
If you are a member of the public or a former employee who has experienced similar issues, I encourage you to speak up. Please feel free to contact or message me directly. You're not alone.

Read moreSo I just came into this store just to buy some lunch and wanted a bean and beef burrito but the store owner saw me on camera possibly trying and suspecting me to shoplift from his store which is false because I have never stolen anything from this store in my life but at least he explained the store policy to me so then I replied that I would buy something else and he said No and that he had bad vibes about me so he asked me to leave the store in which I respectfully did just that. So I do not recommend going to this store since they obviously disrespect and have blatant disregard for all of the current customers who go to this store plus it’s a highly trafficked areas where transients tend to camp out and do drugs which is a safety concern to me so I will never...

I went to the counter and the lady working there "Fatima" looked at me and started yelling "GET OUT" I looked at her and said "excuse me?" She said "your the girl from before with the bag" I said "I don't know what your talking about." She was extremely hostile and said "we can refuse service to anyone" I said "Ok but I didn't do anything and I don't know why your yelling at me" She then said " You're 86, don't ever come back" Why in the world would anyone speak like that to someone?! I didn't do anything and I don't know this person. Definitely calling the BBB. It's...
