If you're looking for a family friendly, or romantic trip, add this to your stop. They have day options (more family oriented) and dinner options with two seated romantic table settings.
When you purchase your tickets online, make sure to stop at the store on River Street first, it's the tallest red banner with Riverboat Tour on it. Go there and that is where you need to get your boarding passes printed. Screenshot your tickets, every one individually, as they have you text a number, attach the images, then they print them off. I tell you this in advance, because it is incredibly frustrating to wait in a very long line, only to be told to exit, print the passes, then enter the line all over again.
Once you get to the front they scan your tickets, then take your picture in front of the ship. Later during the tour, you get to view your pictures and purchase if you so choose. Upon boarding, if you're not in the front of the line, you may not get a wi die seat inside, but the interior seats still have a beautiful view, and most people get up and move outside, once they've had a drink or ate. We were able to find a wonderful employee named Sean who was willing to help clean the table that someone left, and we were then able to enjoy the window view. (Bring tip money for the staff that go above and beyond).
The tables have menus, so you can choose what drink, beverage, appetizers, Salad, Entrees, and even a Kids Menu. Once you decide what you want, you wait in line for the bar to order both. For 3 people, it was over $55, for one drink, one soft drink, an app, a light up drink and a kids meal. We tried the hummus app, and it was good, just really small amount of actual hummus, and the olives were awful. Kids meal was great, and drinks were also great. Also love the souvenir cups. If you have kids, the light-up cups ($7 each) are a great option and a great take home souvenir. The adult souvenir mugs come in 5 different color options, silver, yellow, green, red, blue. I tried the paddlewheel punch and it was really good. I'd definitely get it again.
The restrooms were also clean, and nice smelling, which I very much appreciate.
The staff were very kind and helpful as well.
Overall, the captain, the guide, the staff, all did a phenomenal job. I would recommend adding this to your list on top things to do...
Read moreA difinite trip experience. Nice ride on river from port area towards ocean and back. About 1.5 hours (but boarding 30 minutes early. I'd add another 30 minutes to get from downtown hotel and back.). So plan about 2.5 hours.
I didn't take a food trip (level 2&3) but narrated tour only (level 4&5). The "food" levels are air-conditioned, but you look out a window. I liked the top level, with unobstructed views. This had a few bugs and it was "feels like" 98, so hot, but when boat was moving, it was acceptable and I could see everything.
I think that such tours give you insight into any coastal or water oriented city you visit. You can experience the wet perspective as well as the dry land side. I remember taking a similar ride from downtown DC. It's mind-blowing to understand stand where the Pentagon, Washington Monument, DC shoreline are in relation to one another. It's starting, same with San Francisco to Sausalito, Myrtle Beach Casino boat etc. You get a new view.
A bit of trivia (that I found interesting) was that this paddle wheel ride has 2 boats. The Netflix series Ozark used the smaller one as the casino boat in the series and the bigger one (the one I was on) was rigged with fireworks and "blown up" in front of the hotel across the river as part of the series plot.
Bottom line, you should go, pick a cooler day, and ride on the top deck, you can get a better meal back...
Read moreIt was kind of exactly as I expected (we went as a group, and majority ruled that they wanted to do the cruise). We did the sunset cruise without buffet, which was fairly pricey for going up and down a small portion of the river a few times. There's not much to see once you get past the main strip (which you can see on foot, about a half mile of restaurants and shops), and beyond that there is a lot of industrial land, giant parking lots, and warehouses. Maybe because it was the sunset cruise, but there wasn't a guide or any information presented about what we were seeing either, so if you're looking for a historic tour I would inquire whether the day tours give a bit more information.
There was some live music (in the main dining room, as well as on the top deck) and they were playing some fun music, and there were a few people dancing. There weren't too many people on the cruise either, both the dining hall and deck seemed empty (maybe 15-20% capacity?). Drinks took a long time because there was only one bartender, but she was very generous on the pour, so at least you don't need to order more than 1 or 2 drinks for the entire time.
Overall it was ok, but I wouldn't recommend...
