$11 gets you a roundtrip adult ticket to Bainbridge, the birthplace of pickleball.
Boarding was very smooth for pedestrians on too and cars below. Midday on a weekday the ferry leaves about every hour and was maybe 10% full (lots of empty chairs onboard). They have tables for 4 to eat and play games. Many partially completed puzzles are scattered on tables aboard for entertainment for the 30min trip.
We were easily able to get a table on the side for a view during the trip. If you're looking for a view, I'd recommend checking which side (port or starboard) has cleaner glass. For whatever reason on both trips it seemed like they only cleaned one side and the other side was hazy.
Another tip if you're going to Pike's market in Seattle after getting off the ferry in the Seattle side, don't take the escalator or elevator down the the street level. There's a walkway that takes you above the street to 1st street and you can take 1st street to Pike's. (If you take the elevator/escalator down and walk along the water you'll have to get back uphill by walking or elevator later).
Overall the Ferry was a nice diversion from downtown Seattle and a change of scenery from the tall buildings and urban landscape...
Read moreBy 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. I was appalled to see so much single use plastic being served on board a ferry that is traversing these beautiful waterways.
Over 95% of the plastic that we consume and send to recycling does not actually get recycled. It is unacceptable to me that a ferry operating on a waterfront city is profiting off of the degradation of the very water that it travels each day.
You can and must do better. By now, there are ample options to explore that don’t revolve around single used plastics. You could at least stop the sale of plastic bottled water, and opt for aluminum canned.
But selling such a variety of this trash is only normalizing the consumption, and normalizing this massive problem on our hands.
Thank you for considering...
Read moreTaking the ferry to Bainbridge Island is a fun day trip or weekend excursion. There are lots of great places to eat and shop on Bainbridge Island and plenty of places to stay overnight.
The ferry is very fun and it goes by in a flash. Don’t get too comfortable because the 30 minute ride is not much time to settle in. There are wide variety food options and none of them ate awesome. The most popular thing is probably the popcorn and the breakfast sandwiches. They also have Ivers fish and chips, hotdogs and lots of different snacks.
One time we saw Orca and the ferry stopped to let them pass, incredible!
You only pay from Seattle to Bainbridge, Bainbridge to...
