Harbor Freight — Local services in Stickney Township

Been getting small tools here for years. They had a sale going on and we needed a chainsaw. The Poulan Pro gas saw had great reviews on the website, so I bought one. The first time I used it, it began leaking bar and chain oil, then literally fell apart in my hands. Took it back to HF but it had been over 90 days and they said there was nothing they could do, I had to contact the mfr. We contacted Poulan and they gave me a list of service centers to take the saw back to (no refund was mentioned). All the service centers were out of business and far away from where we live anyway. Gave Poulan this information but never heard back from them. Then we contacted Husqvarna directly (because they own Poulan). Mind you this is all happening via online chat, which is most likely a call center in Czechoslovakia. They sent me a list of two different service centers, again, far away from my house. Called them and they said I have to pay a $55 fee because I didn't purchase the product from them. They then evaluate the saw, take pics, etc. to SEE if what needs to be done is covered by the warranty. I went back to the HF website to write a review on this saw, and guess what? THEY NO LONGER SELL IT!! Imagine that. It's completely wiped from the website, you can't even Google it. My wife is furious and said we're never buying anything else from HF again. I'm done with them too. The few dollars you save isn't worth the headache of what can possibly go wrong, especially if you buy anything other than wrenches. Generally speaking, Harbor Freight stores are hit or miss. And when I say hit or miss I'm talking about customer service. What comes in a box is whatever's in that box and the store employees have nothing to do with that except for the fact that you could ask a question and 50% of the time the employees don't know anything about the products they are selling. Today was no exception, I asked some questions initially and it was mostly about a coupon that I had and I got an answer. I started the store looking for the item I wanted and they didn't have it. I had to settle on the next item which I wasn't quite sure if that was going to meet my needs. It's a arc welder by the way. At checkout, the cashier who seemed completely annoyed with being there and it conveyed with the whole transaction, rung up my purchase and then I had a couple of questions about what she just said as fast as possible. She reiterated what she said but a little bit slower and I didn't still quite understand what she was talking about. An older lady with glasses chimed in and she seemed completely annoyed that I was asking a question. I still didn't really get a straight answer. I patted the box with the item in it and ask is everything I need inside this box. The older lady said yes. So basically that tells me she doesn't know anything about it because there's no gloves, eye protection or even welding sticks inside the 80 amp inverter Arc welder. It’s similar to stores like Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, etc., but they have deals that no other store can beat. They have a $29.99 yearly membership where you can get access to even more discounts.

❤️ Faves/Go-Tos: I usually come to Harbor Freight for their $0.99 bags & batteries. The $0.99 reusable bag is 19 gallons and is very similar to iconic IKEA one, so save yourself to trip to IKEA if you’re looking to get big reusable bags. I usually use the big reusable bags when doing laundry or grocery shopping.

⭐️ Customer Service: The staff are usually friendly. In my most recent visit, I was greeted when I walked through the door which was nice.

🛒 Merchandise: This Harbor Freight location has some decent inventory. Most times when me & my boyfriend come, almost every visit, he buys something for his job.

🚽 Bathroom: The bathrooms are located towards the far right corner of the store. The bathroom is usually clean at least all the times I’ve gone.

🛍️ Overall Experience: Overall, I have a good shopping experience at Harbor Freight at the Burbank location. The staff were friendly, great inventory, & affordable prices.
