I bought the new student, unlimited classes, 2-week pass for just $25 and enjoyed being able to sample lots of different teachers and classes. Then, once I saw they were legit, I bought the 6-month, unlimited classes package and I’m very pleased. The teachers are well grounded, well trained, competent and caring. The studio is simple, clean, comfortable, well-organized and run like an efficient business to serve the client.

The founder, Jim, and all the teachers, have an extraordinary understanding of exercise/sports physiology, biomechanics, orthopedics and the musculoskeletal system. It is rare to find teachers who both understand the ancient art of Yoga and also have a modern, scientific, and medical understanding of the body. Also, they give excellent verbal cues during classes that guide the student.

I started Yoga because my dance teacher told me she had taken me just about as far as she could. I needed to step into body work, to advance my dance practice. I specifically appreciate the Align & Center class taught by Marissa Ross; it feels custom made for dance majors. However, all the classes I have taken at Yoga Nirvana have been great. I can already feel the difference and my dance is becoming more fluid, spontaneous and balanced.

As it turns out, I live in Los Angeles, CA. My girlfriend lives in Phoenix so I am in AZ quite a bit. Living in LA has made me incredibly spoiled in terms of Yoga because the quantity of incredibly talented teachers there is mind boggling. My standards with respect to the people whose classes I take are extraordinarily high.

So with that said, this studio's founder, Jim Keegan, is one of my two favorite teachers that I have ever practiced with worldwide (the other being my primary teacher back in LA). His knowledge of yoga is truly impressive, both in terms of the physical and philosophical components of the practice. I often refer to him as my Yoga Yoda. He takes teaching very seriously, and chooses the other instructors at his studio carefully to ensure that they do as well. I'd say that as a group, they are really just incredibly dedicated to a principal goal of making their students better.

If you want to watch your teacher demonstrate very advanced poses you can't do, show off fancy new workout clothes, or spend inordinate amounts of time working on flashy looking asanas, then this is probably not going to be a studio where you should spend much time.

On the other hand, if you want to get deeper into your practice, learn about yoga, and get a lot of highly personalized attention and instruction then please come by and try out a class. You won't be...

I have practiced all over the valley and Yoga Nirvana is my home. I don't feel like I have to wear the coolest lulu lemon gear or be able to do all the poses nor I don't feel ashamed for having to sit down in class...I don't worry about what others might be thinking of me. And for the first time in my life - I don't feel like I have to push my body to extremes to get results...I accept my body along with its abilities and limitations. There is simply no judgement and if it weren't for YN I am not sure I would be walking today.

The teachers at YN understand the body and the practice of yoga - not just asana/poses. You will begin to understand the true origins of yoga and the other 7 limbs besides just doing poses (HAH I BET YOU ARE SAYING LIMBS? 7 LIMBS? WHAT ARE THE LIMBS OF YOGA?! - THAT'S BECAUSE MOST STUDIOS DO NOT TEACH THEM =)). You will learn to build heat from the inside while learning poses that you have probably never even heard of...you will be challenged beyond measure and accepted where you are at. Every teacher knows how to offer adjustments and accommodations for any body type. Yoga is not a mass prescription and you will see that here. Your yoga practice is just that, it is yours!
