My friends and I have frequented the Sunbar on several occasions and usually have a pretty good time. Until we didnt.
I listen to dubstep (riddim is my fav) so it's the closest thing I can get with decent music!! (they play house). There DJs are usually pretty good.
Liking the venue, I planned a going away brunch for a friend and talked everyone into the Sunbar! We got there and they were busy as heck! We had to wait for seating.. But not an issue.. We could see how busy they were.
They sat us at a table in the bumper room and thats kind of where things went downhill.
Our food took FOREVER to get to us (about an hour). But.. They were slammed so we had zero complaint about the time of the food. It was understandable.
The music was so loud in there (we were right by a speaker) that we couldn't even talk without yelling. 1130 in the morning im not ready to have to scream everything I say. We delt with it.
Our table should have been for 10, it could hardly hold the 7 of our drinks. There was a small table beside us i thought was closed off for covid seating, but apperently they are not concerned about capasity. So i started prebussing our table, moving empty cups and bottles to the smaller table.
A security guard came to me and told me I had to sit down (no problem). I said ok im just clearing off our table a bit before our food gets here to make room. He said.. You cant so that, you need to set all your stuff back on your table. I said, you sir need to get a bus boy. He started picking my empty stuff up and moving it back to my table, then pointed at the table next to me and said.. They have the same size table and there not being "as whiny as you"... š¶.
I said.. You need to find me a manager right now...
The manager came over and we went over everything. I had already posted a less than favorable review on Facebook (which they deleted).. I thought he was going to work at resolving the issues but he fell short (too bad he didn't take that opritunity to change my review).
Thanks for sending the complementary 1Ā¢ bottle of champagne and a plate of frys to the table. š
As I was leaving, I wanted to tell him that the music was good (just a little loud for brunch) and our waitress was amazing... But halfway through my goodbye he said "THANKS FOR THE REVIEW.. MAYBE SNAKES AND LATTES DOWN THE STREET IS MORE YOUR SPEED". Umm ok.
No, i do not recommend Sunbar Tempe there staff is unprofessional and rude. (except our waitress.. She was awesome).
Plus everyone's food sucked. Idk.. Maybe it's better when...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot very family or covid friendly. My bf and I cane here to say hello to a friend who was DJing. My bf had his name on "the list". I'm 20 and didn't exepct I would get in, but I wanted to get brunch here if it was possible. If not, I was fine with waiting outside for my bf to meet his friend and leave. No signs indicated you needed ID, so we at least tried to get in. The bouncer didn't wear any attire that suggested he was security. He looked like all the other patrons in his jean jacket. According to him, he won't let you in unless you intend to spend money here (can't just say hello to someone??!?). [You don't walk into an establishment and have workers ask you if you're gonna buy anything, you can change your mind and leave, right??] The bouncer waited for my boyfriend and I to walk alllllll the way through the empty queue and almost into the bar before TOUCHING me and saying "excuse me" as if I were intentonally trying to do something wrong. There were numbered squares written in chalk on the ground suggesting this is where people wait in line. However, there was no line, so we walked up... and he waited until we had walked 15 ft up to the entrance with one foot "through the door" to then put his hands on me and ask for ID. Next time, put up a sign that says WAIT here or just stop us sooner instead of being on your phone then touching me to stop me from entering. Also, put on a uniform or something. You look like every other patron here, no distinction in your appearance to make it obvious you are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve attended a few dozen shows at Sunbar. Overall they get really amazing acts but there is some changes they need to make to make the experience better.
They need to add delay audio for the highs and mids. If youāre in the back. Good luck hearing what is playing beyond the loud (amazing) bass. Iād recommend adding speakers down the sides of the room all the way into the back. They need to add some center fills. If youāre in the front the line array audio misses you.
This honestly makes me alone hesitate going to see another show at Sunbar vs Darkstar or any other venue in AZ.
The LED screen is pretty much useless to see if you canāt get close. Iād consider adding some additional lighting production to give some eye candy to those who arenāt near the front.
This is a more personal preference than a requirement but add one more laser in the center. If youāre close to the stage you miss out on the great RGB lasers.
Stop over selling shows. If a show sells out, I donāt think I will attend anymore. Iāve been to 2 sold out shows, and it was miserable with how many people there were. Paired with the fact you canāt get close enough to hear the audio. Made a bad experience. Then pair that with the fact that it takes forever to get water to drink makes it hard to want to stay.
Overall the crowds are pretty good, I think the bathrooms for the guys moves quick and the layout is good. Just fix your audio and I can tolerate the...
