Don't kid yourself, it's loud on weekends, surrounded by homeless people because of how close it is to Armory park. The rooms are nice but sleeping at night makes you feel like you're in a prison cell because they are solid grey concrete. The front desk staff (if you can call them staff) don't do anything that makes you feel welcomed. My wife my son and I had to stay here while our house was being redone and got zero help. From trying to get information on parking to even just figuring out when we could move in. Two times I've been into the leasing office, the first time was only open because random people (who he said was a former employee) and five other guys were pregaming for a UofA Game. He had at least three drinks when we talked to him. But at least he was helpful, too bad he was not an employee or I would have some praise for the staff. The second time the fire alarm went off so I rushed to get my sixth month old son and myself to safely while other tenants just stood around in the halls only to see the staff member sitting at his desk, look at me, wave me off to say "I'm busy" and go back to his phone call. All the while the alarms were going off. When he finally ended his call he looked at me and asked "how can I help you?" I said "the alarms are going off in the building." And with all the empathy of a stoner replied "oh yeah there testing the alarms, you should have gotten an email." Clearly I didn't. So I told him so, "no I didn't get one" (otherwise I wouldn't have rushed out of the building) he said "oh well, whoever set you up here should have sent you one, they really dropped the ball." How about"oh sorry what's your email so this doesn't happen again? Or maybe something to the effect of that? Not just pass blame? And finally the biggest and most obnoxious thing is the parking. One paid space with the tag assigned is near $180 extra. No big deal, except only a handful of cars actually abide by this rule, many spaces are just filled with no tag and nobody does anything, yet when my wife and I (who have two cars) were checking in, no one was at the leasing office to tell us we only got one spot. Then the next day we found out we only had One spot and that we were taking a spot so we asked about an additional one was told no because there is a wait list. Yet you need a key fob to enter the locked chain wall just to park and as long as you have a key fob for the room you can enter and just take a spot. There are multiple cars parked without tags in the locked lot. And the entire surrounding area is all paid meters that are always full due to the location and the alternative is to get a monthly pass for a garage that is more than the price for a spot in the parking lot. Or to use a public parking area a block away. (Update: also handicapped parking is also almost ALWAYS taken up by non handicap with no tags or plates, even the loading area meant for handicap access has a car parked in it daily.)
But I don't want to be all negative, if you really and I mean really want to live downtown in Tucson with a wonderful view of the TEP building and pay twice as much as OUR CURRENT MORTGAGE for our home then this place isn't bad, if you are a single, no kids, one car of no car, and love walking everywhere kinda person then check it out. But if you're not in college, then you would not be reading this review.
I'm an old man who didn't have any other options. I didn't pick this place, it was chosen by my insurance company. If you made it this far then you have already made up your mind about staying here or you work here. Either way, listen carefully. My opinion doesn't matter, it's only temporary and I'm not your target tenant. But your staff needs to be a little bit more aware of when a father comes to your staff with a young baby in his arms looking at them for answers and the best response he gets is "someone else...
Read moreGallery on 5th warm welcome, yeah right! rather cold and uninviting.... I came here Monday morning and the guy at the front desk was awful. I couldn't reach the client via the code box, so I came in through another set of doors that led me to where I mentioned to the man at the front desk I was there to clean a unit, he didn't even let me finish saying what I was going to say. He began explaining how they don't hire people to clean the units, the renters do and he continues on to say why am I telling him....He did not greet me, gave me this look like I was beneath him and spoke to me in slow and condescending manner as if I didn't understand English, was it because I was a Mexican cleaner? He obviously has never worked in higher end properties where the front desk/concierge sometimes verifies the cleaner before allowing them to enter the premises or sometimes there is a code required or key card to have use of the elevator. Or how about just pointing me in the right direction since it was obviously my first time there. Or letting me explain instead of finding reasons to not to want to help me. He was so upset by me mentioning I was there to clean a unit. He finally was able to answer my question on how to navigate to the unit but still that was after the negative looks and comments, when he finally paused to let me communicate. Honestly I would expect more professionalism coming from the front desk at the Gallery on Fifth. Do not be so quick to judge someone based on thier job as a cleaner, you do not know if that person may be a future tenant or you do not know who their client is, or who else they know that could affect the business. How about being a kind person, and not assuming the next Mexican cleaner that enters your building is not a US citizen and cannot hear and or speak English perfectly! Whether US citizen or not, speaking to someone in a harsh and slower manner is rude. If I only spoke Spanish, the way this man interacted with me, I would take it as rude too. English or Spanish. Eye gestures and body posture can mean the same thing.. Who hired this man to be at the front desk. He is definitely not a friendly person. Or maybe I'm just not light skinned enough for him to be nice to. Seriously The Gallery on Fifth, this man needs a few lessons in customer service basics and relearning what his position duties are, because my first time walking into the Gallery on Fifth was atrocious, he does not fit Front Desk quality friendly service...
Read moreAbsolutely love living in this building!! There are just so many pros to list, but I'll go ahead.
The apartments are massive and stunning. I have a luxurious shower, a brand new kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and not just a laundry machine but an entire LAUNDRY ROOM! The balcony space is also very pleasant for enjoying outdoor space. Blazing fast fiber optic internet is also a major plus. Also, the building has secure package lockers as well as a really great gym across the street!
The building maintenance is also FANTASTIC. The place is always SPOTLESS, and I regularly see staff cleaning and maintaining the inside and grounds of the building. Maintenance comes almost immediately and is very accommodating to WFH schedules. More importantly, the building staff are some of the kindest I've ever met, always extremely welcoming and truly caring of their residents in the building.
The location is also perfect - 2 blocks from hotel Congress, equidistant 10 minute walk to the end of downtown and the end of 4th Ave. It's also just a few minutes walk to the sun link tram and the bus station. It's completely livable without taking out a car as it's close to bars, restaurants, and all the downtown performance venues.
The only slight dings I would give are tradeoffs that come with loving downtown. It doesn't have a pool, but that's expected in my opinion given the location density and the Stillwell House is across the street so sometimes on weekend nights there's noise, but it's always wrapped up promptly at 10 or 11.
I've lived in several urban luxury apartment buildings across the US, and this one by far has been my favorite. If you're thinking of living here, don't think twice...
