It's been a while since we last ate here. Salsa is simple, but it doesn't mean that's always good. I forgot how much I like their salsa. We (my partner) both like it. We had the avocado fries as an appetizer. They are good but not great... But they are a nice alternative for an appetizer though. For the main course I had the shrimp enchiladas with mushrooms and spinach with the Tomatila sauce that I requested, other than the sauce that came with it. Good call. Their Tomatila sauce is spot on. I love a good green sauce. More authentic to Mexico as a sauce. My partner had the steak enchiladas (not on the menu) but he knows to ask for it and they will make it that way. He had the red chili con carne sause. He enjoyed his main course as well. Not great atmosphere or pazzaz but it's good Mexican food for a large restaurant. I would recommend it as a downtown eatery.

Mexicali Border Cafe is a fun little psudo-"Mexican" food joint. I visited on a Saturday evening. There was no wait time & plenty of seating. Free parking in their lot, with lot Security, so that was NICE! Service was 4 out of 5, so not stellar but I have no specific complaint. The kitchen sent orders out quickly. The food arrived warm-ish & tasty. It was not at all authentic compared to what you might encounter in Mexico, but it was solid when compared to most Mex-Tex chains that seem popular these days. Atmosphere & decor was cute. My one Complement to management is that --in my opinion-- they managed to find the perfect level of sound for their background music. Just loud enough so you could tell what you were listening to if you focused, but low enough that it did not interfere with conversation. Perfect! Overall, yeah, I'd go back.

Dinner at Mexicali Border Cafe in Downtown Tulsa, OK was just okay. We had a large party and we were able to get seated quickly with dinner reservations. Mexicali Border has a large menu. I ended up choosing the Ultimate Enchiladas, which came with one fajita steak enchilada and one chicken fajita enchilada filled with sautéed pico de gallo and portabella mushrooms. One was topped with queso mixed cheese , cilantro, and ranchera sauce. It was served with rice and Borracha beans. The enchiladas had a good taste but the texture was off. The ambiance was casual with dimly lit lighting. The staff was attentive. Overall, this is a great spot for large groups with a variety of dishes to choose from at a decent price. The dish I ordered could have been shared.

I’m a RN who works way too much close to Mexicali Restaurant. On my bad days I treated myself for lunch as take out from this restaurant. I’ve been eating here for approximately a year. The last month I’ve been charged differently by different staff. Today I was told they were charging for a separate bag for the to-go items. When I looked at my receipt I was charged 2.5% for a to go order x 2. I called to talk to the manager - Paul- he was crazy, abrupt, conformational, and hung up on me before I could even tell him my question. I called again to talk with the owner. He sadly told me it was him. Again he was conformational, angry, and stated, “ look Lady these are the prices and deal with or go some where else!” I was in shock and disappointed as Mexicali Restaurant was my place to go and find a little happiness with good food. But Paul if your the owner- u sadly lost a good paying customer and I hope things get better in your life. As a owner or manager - you should always be in control of your emotions and find a happy median with your customers. I have 3 people who will never there again. I will not either and I hope your able to cover your plastic bags.

Later today I was able to speak with another manager whom I believe was Albert. He was professional and genuine. He explained the increased plastic cost related to Covid and was super friendly. He is a real asset to this company. But sadly the way Paul spoke to me and hung up me twice I cannot return there to their establishment. The boy whom verbally attacked me and hung up me twice is the owners son. He actually lied and stated he was the owner. I feel sorry for his parents. As if he was rude to a stranger over the phone. I wonder how he treats...

A very very very uncomfortable experience. I could not believe the boldness that a Canadian waiter named Mark had in addressing our table. In addition to only checking on our table about twice in our 1.5 hours of dining (in a very empty restaurant), he purposefully engaged in a random political debate with my fellow patrons and I. Though everyone at my table is fine with a political discussion, we felt like the conversations were uncalled for. When my friends mother engaged in discussion with the waiter, he interrupted her whenever her opinion was not aligned with his. He insisted that the country has strayed from its Judeo-Christian origins in a tone that was most similar to eliminationist empathy rather than a friendly opinion. To top it off, when he made a mistake on my order, he blamed the kitchen staff's lack of English proficiency rather than his unwarranted confidence in his memory, since he did not write any of our orders down. All in all, I was extremely angered by his pestering and would not suggest that anyone eat at this establishment. I recommend El Refugio Azteca located at 61st & Mingo/41st & 129th as a friendly and tastier alternative. If I could rate my experience at zero...

We showed up and the restaurant was basically empty and we were told that it was open seating. We had a party of 6, 4 of which were about 15 minutes away. First we were told we couldn't be seated until our entire party arrived. When our other 4 were about 7 minutes away we asked again and said we could order and pay ahead of time for everyone, hostess said she would check with manager, she proceeded to stand at the hostess desk and wait for more customers to come in. We asked again if she would check with manager, a waitress was kind enough to go in the back and get the manager. We explained to the manager we were short on time, the remainder of our party was almost here and we had everyone's order. Keep in mind restaurant was still basicly empty. The manager said that she couldn't seat our party until they were completely here, and we could not order and pay for food for people that were not here.. I understand policy is policy. However, when they aren't busy and our party was 5 minutes away, you would expect them to have some decent customer service. Needless to say, we left and had great Burgers at Fat...
