Came in this evening to buy clothes. I am a regular shopper at this store. Over the last month I have spent nearly a grand using my Kohl's charge on suits, shoes, ties, dress shirts, pants, you name it. I have overlooked the fact that each time I have been in this store shopping, usually a couple hours at a time because of the volume that I've purchased, that associates standing only two feet away act like I'm not there. I've overlooked the fact that only one check out station ever seems to be in use. So tonight, I had another armload of clothes and a coupon I received for 20 percent off. The cashier rudely told me that the coupon wouldn't be valid for a couple of days. I looked at the date and she was right, but it was in small print and easy to overlook. I told her about the purchases I've made at that store and asked if she couldn't make an exception. She asked if I was getting emails and I told her I wasn't, and she shrugged and acted like it was no big deal. She didn't offer anything to make my time spent at Kohl's, or the gas to drive there worthwhile, in spite of the fact that my purchase wasn't insubstantial. In fact, she acted annoyed because it was closing time and there was a line of people behind me. Having worked retail myself for many years, I get it, but I also could have never gotten away with the indifference I got shopping here. Nor would I have treated shoppers that way over something so easily fixed. I left the pile of clothes on the counter and left the store. If a retailer thinks in this economy that it can afford to lose business over something as petty as a coupon being a couple of days away when someone is trying to purchase a couple hundred dollars worth of merchandise, and risk losing a repeat customer at that, then they deserve whatever consequence comes from it. Sure, one customer doesn't make a difference, but if it happens to enough of them because of employees who do nothing to accommodate customers, coupled with nonexistent customer service during the shopping experience, which has been every single time in my experience shopping here, it will come back to bite Kohl's. I'm considering paying off my Kohl's card and cancelling it. I may as well shop online since department stores don't have salespeople anymore, only warm bodies who act like it bothers them when someone interrupts their job with anything that requires them to do anything even slightly above the basic requirements. Shopping at that store tonight was a waste of my time. I shopped there because I chose to, but I'll take my business to a company more deserving and not contribute to the employment of such lazy, rude, and ineffectual associates. And I will be back to speak to the manager. I have the receipts to prove that I'm not exaggerating how much I've purchased there. I'm also not beyond returning every single item. I...
Read moreUsually Kohls is top notch but this trip was very frustrating. I was out of town for a conference and stopped in to get a sweater and a couple other items. I checked out using my Kohl's credit card to receive an extra savings. I immediately paid the bill at the register with my debit card so I would've have a balance on my Kohl's card.
I left the store and went to my hotel. When I got to the room, I looked at the receipt and realized that I had been charged twice for the sweater and hadn't been charged for the earrings I purchased. I called the store and was transferred to loss prevention. The lady I spoke to was not very friendly. I got put on hold so she could review the transaction and, after about 10 minutes, she came back on the line and said she located the transaction and I needed to come to the store to get things fixed. I asked if I could get the credit over the phone and was told they couldn't do that.
By this time it was late so I went back the next day at lunch break. I presented the receipt and the earrings so I could get my credit and be charged for the earrings. I had to wait for them to find where the loss prevention had left the note. Finally, they found it and began to adjust the transaction. I told the gentleman that I had paid off the card on the spot and presented the receipt. He informed me that he couldn't refund my money to my debit card because I had used my Kohl's card. I told him I don't shop at Kohls often and didn't want to have a credit on my Kohl's card. He stated there was nothing he could do about it.
I don't understand why they couldn't refund to my debit card after I provided proof of paying the balance. Additionally, I am forced to go to Kohls just to use the credit. I live about an hour away from the closest Kohls store. I don't shop for clothes online as I need to try things on.
What began as a cashier's mistake has ended with me having to make a third trip to the store just to get my credit. Ridiculous. It's going to cost me more in fuel to go bank again than my credit is.
So much for shopping...
Read moreI shop here regularly for kid's clothes- but I have noticed a trend that makes me want to go elsewhere, despite the fact that I am saving a little money: Every other time I arrive at Kohl's they are chasing down, subduing, or calling police on shoplifters. It must be a big problem here. I rarely have seen this happen at bigger stores, like Wal-Mart, Dillon's, even the malls. It MUST be happening several times a day, every day, for me to run into this scene on my way in the door 4 times in a 2 week period! It is scary and off-putting- twice I just got right back in my car and left. I saw 2 employees tackle a guy in the parking lot after chasing him around for a minute screaming "Give me back my merchandise!" I stayed in my car and recorded this until the police arrived to rescue the guy from underneath the security that were laying on top of him. Is it really worth it to create this type of drama in front of children and customers? I tell my daughter she has to stay home with daddy when I go to Kohl's because it is too dangerous. And this is very inconvenient because it is hard to buy shoes for a child without trying them on. I decided it was safer to buy 4 pairs, take them home, try them on, then return what didn't work. So, obviously, I like shopping here, as I stated, because the prices are great. But, when I heard myself saying that, I knew I had to write a review. Kohl's needs to review how they handle these minor offences before somebody gets hurt- physically or in the...
