Stop looking at other cooking classes and book this one! We had such a wonderful day with Thom, a truly unique cooking experience. Taking the boat ride out to the island where Thom's family live was lovely - cool breeze on the river and plenty to look at as we passed fishing spots, farms and houses. A short walk between some local shrimp farming ponds and through the village to Thom's grandma's house where we learned about traditional rice milling methods and made our own "rice milk". We steamed our own rice paper, then used it with the pork we marinated and barbequed on charcoal burners. We made a divine green papaya salad, then banh xeo, and cooked claypot marinated tuna steaks which we sat and ate together in the house. Plenty of time to wander around and explore the area, and Thom was happy to answer all the questions we had about village life, sharing her stories with us. Thom as also amazing capturing photos throughout the day as we cooked! We absolutely loved our experience and couldn't recommend it more...
Read moreI had an incredible experience on this Vietnamese cooking tour with my husband! Our guide, Thom, was absolutely wonderful. She started the day by taking us on a stroll through a vibrant market, where we explored a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices. It was so interesting to learn about the local ingredients and how they’re used in Vietnamese cooking. Afterward, we biked to a beautiful house where we had the opportunity to cook traditional dishes. The entire cooking experience was fantastic, and Thom explained everything clearly and thoughtfully. She’s so sweet and engaged us in lovely conversations throughout the day. We highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to dive into Vietnamese culture...
Read moreMy mom and I LOVED this cooking class. Thom was our instructor and she was fantastic. She is so lovely and speaks some of the best English I've come across in Vietnam, so not only were the instructions great but the conversations were great too! The island was a 45 minute boat ride from Hoi An and was really comfortable. When we got to the island, Thom told us about island life, introduced us to her precious grandma, and then gave a tutorial on using the tradional kitchen tools. The food from the menu is DELICIOUS but unfortunately my mom and I were so full we couldnt finish most of it. I HIGHLY recommend My Grandma's Home Cooking! Come with your appetite and some bug spray (mosquitos are especially...
