I went to Cordelia Soughdough Bakery this morning. I am gluten intolerant and we have been here before where I have been able to eat the NYC GF bagels. This morning though I felt like something different and asked the server if the granola was GF. She went out the back and asked the kitchen, returning and saying that yes, it was GF. When it came out, it looked lovely with beautifully sliced apple and banana on top but I could see oats, which are not GF. I asked a different server to please check again if the granola was GF and she must have mentioned to the kitchen that I said I could see oats. She returned and said that no, the granola was not GF. She offered me a bagel, which I said I did not want. She said that was all that they could offer - no mention of a refund was made by her and I should have asked but didn't. With nothing else available, I said I would have a toasted bagel, which I did not end up eating as it was tasteless and doughy. We left and that will be my last ever visit to Cordelia Soughdough Bakery. If I had not been vigilant and seen the oats, I would have taken their word that the granola was GF and then been horrendously ill for the next two weeks. Food establishments need to be fully aware of food allergies and intolerances. I was careful, asking ahead for what I could eat. They needed to check the packaging in the first instance, not just assume it was GF. You have no idea how ill I could have been through your negligence in not bothering to check the...
Read moreI had the most unpleasant experience. I order my food for take away and asked if there was access to a toilet to which they replied yes and signal me it was around the corner. I asked to keep my food behind the counter while I went to use the toilet. I went around but no toilet sign. This is a real nightmare for an IBS sufferer. At that point I went back and jumped the queue to ask where the toilet was in case I misunderstood the instructions. She kept staring at me blankly. To convey the urgency I explained that I was about to be sick. Only then I was provided with the keys. Went back to the place she indicated unlocked the first door. Found a door with the toilet sign and finally was able to use the toilet. Upon returning the keys they questioned if I had paid for my order which was ready behind the counter. I mean seriously? This is the type of café where you pay first and get served after. There was no way it would have happened. This ppl behaviour was appalling. I am here for a conference and I was dressed in a tidy manner. In case someone asks. Croissant was nice. Would I recommend the place? no never. Plenty of other places with nicer staff around the area. Edit: in reply to the comment from the Bakery. it would have helped if they gave me the keys the first time I asked, instead of giving me directions to a locked door. I spoke to them after in hope to raise awareness. Thanks...
