The food is not bad, taste authentic Sichuan flavour for their signature diced chicken with spicy chilies, but the service...... The staff are not well trained as they have no idea what they are doing. I spent 15 minutes to order my dish as no one is checking if customer will order or not. After I ordered my dish, 10 minutes later one of their staff told me the dish I ordered is sold out, fine, I reordered dumplings instead. Then.....my first dish (diced chicken) present to me very quickly and it took half hour to cook my dumplings, finally the dumpling present to me after I finished my diced chicken. No apologies, no caring, no 5 mins check. The manager looks like an university student and has no idea what he is doing during the day, no training for their staff and it's shame to waste the good food with unpleasant customer service. Later I found that the owner is China Chilli 蜀香坊, well, no doubt. I won't visit this restaurant again and would not recommend to others unless you don't mind this customer service.

Very flavoursome Sichuan style food, despite all the chilli's it actually wasn't excessively spicy. For someone like me who occasionally eats spicy food it was just right but chilli aficionados might need to ask for the heat to be cranked up a bit. Will be returning to try the other dishes. Nice enough venue and the service was friendly. However I've only given 4 stars because I think your staff could use a bit more experience. You can tell some of them are still trying to get the hang of things based on the small details. They forgot to bring our rice and we had to remind them, and it seems like they have to do a double take when bringing dishes to tables rather than memorising and confidently placing. Regardless, I don't think the current 3.4 star average is reflective of the experience I had and I expect that with a few months more time their service will improve.

We had a really good experience here. The service was good and the staff were super friendly and polite. The food is pretty quick to come out. A lot of the food is oily, and as this is a sichuan restaurant, it has sichuan pepper in a lot of the dishes. If you haven't had sichuan pepper before, it numbs your mouth, and sometimes you can't taste much when that happens. However, the use of pepper was mild (in comparison to in China) and therefore enjoyable. I can highly recommend the tea smoked duck dish. This has no spice at all for the record. It's a twist on the beijing/Peking duck we all know so well. I really liked it. We were able to BYO at $15 a bottle. Their wine glasses are nice quality, and they have decanters also. The food is well priced and authentic, which was awesome. The only downside was that we had to be out by 9pm, as they were closing.

*Updated 30/09/2020

I’m writing this review while waiting for my food. It’s been exactly 27 mins since we were here and we haven’t got our entree yet. When we first arrived at 17:35 ish we were told there’s something wrong with our booking so we can’t get the table as we requested. We were offered to either sit at the outdoor area or wait for someone to finish their meal so we can sit inside. After a bit of mess around after we finally got to sit inside. Ordered food at 17:49:43 and it is 18:19 our entree that was supposed take about 5-10mins to make were finally here. Not happy with table services at all. Have been told “the shop is really busy now”.

The food on the other hand is above average with no doubt. But seriously being busy does not mean that you can offer the dishes differently to the menu. I mean specifically with 敲糖口水鸡。如果不能敲糖,请把菜单改成”不能敲糖口水鸡”。 Sorry for my non mandarin speaking fellas for this one here lol. It’s basically me winging the food presents way too different than what it was on the menu.

Well if you’re gonna charge anything close to fine dinning prices to cop with ur expensive ongoing cost, the least you can do is to get ur table services up to standard guys.

Final edits: No matter how many bots or friends and family you hire to write fake 5 stars reviews the stats probs ain’t going back up if you don’t listen to the people who got disappointed. For whoever wants to try this place, I still personally recommend this shop. The food is alright and tbh we need some fine ass Chinese restaurant to get our names out there in Brisbane cuz there’s only a few considered remarkable. I truly wish that you guys can go back to the basics and stand out in this small town. (They didn’t pay me for nothing don’t you worry guys no one’s pointing a gun on my head forcing me to write this...

Well presented restaurant serving authentic Chinese cuisine located next to the Westin Hotel in Brisbane CBD. They do offer a wide selection of dishes ranging from the super spicy black mullet braised in chilli oil and peppercorn to non-spicy tea-smoked duck. There’s something for every taste bud. The dishes are not small in portion and are mostly designed to be shared so its ideal to dine in a group of 3-4 if you’d like to try a few dishes. Or just be prepared to take some leftovers home (like we always do) as their food still taste delicious after reheating.

The two of us ordered these 3 dishes with rice and took home the leftovers which were enough for a second meal.

Dry Fried Pork intestine with dry chilli and chips - Loved the chilli infused flavour and crunchiness of all the ingredients: pork intestine, capsicum, potato, peanuts, onion. The flavour is spicy but not over the top numbing kind of spicy. The strong flavour makes it a great dish to pair with rice.

“Xu Xiang” Eggplant with pork mince and sweet sour sauce - Eggplants are cooked through and nice and soft. Sauce was delicious. If you are someone who likes eggplant in sauce, this is another flavoursome dish to pair with rice.

Spicy lamb ribs with capsicum, onions, peanuts, coriander, cumin and paprika - Amazing aroma and flavour. The lamb ribs were simply a delight and cooked to perfection. This dish is perfect to enjoy on its own or pair with rice.

They also served a small plate of picked cabbage as complimentary appetiser, which was really nice. Overall the dining experience was enjoyable. Staff were attentive although we sat at the outdoor dining area. Prices are on the expensive side. Highly recommend using Liven to buy Foodollars to get discount if you can.

Been here 3 times. Mostly enjoyable Sichuan food - high in both flavour and price.

The restaurant is centrally located at the base of The Westin Brisbane on Mary St in the CBD, and offers a range of indoor and outdoor seating, plus some private function rooms if that’s more your style. The menu is extensive, with a focus on Sichuan items. But if you’re like my family who can’t handle much heat, there are non-spicy options too.

Items I've tried over 3 visits are listed below. Favourites are marked with a 👍

First visit April 2022 deep fried shallot pancake 蔥油餅, $6 👍 tea smoked duck with pancakes and sweet bean sauce 一品樟茶鴨, $42 boiled assorted vegetables in rice soup 米湯耙耙菜, $19 rice, $3/person

Second visit October 2022 Braised ox tongue, $39 - with Chinese cabbage, black fungus, green Sichuan peppercorn oil, and sesame oil. We were actually after the sliced ox tongue ($24) and thought that's what we ordered but didn't realise there were 2 ox tongue items and a little miscommunication resulted in us getting a different dish! 👍Spicy lamb ribs, $36 - with capsicum, onions, peanuts, coriander, cumin, and paprika 👍"yu xiang" eggplant, $23 - with pork mince in sweet sour sauce Our party also had some drinks (lychee punch $8, watermelon punch $6, watermelon juice $8)

Third visit July 2023 Tofu pudding, $31 - with salted egg yolk, fish roe and crab meat. The dish presented differently to the menu though - had to look very closely to spot the crab 😅 Double cooked pork, $31 👍Stir fried...
