Myself and three dinner companions chose Saturday night to experience a little Spanish influence dining. However, what we experienced was the exact opposite. Wait staff while friendly and approachable, hadn’t the faintest idea on how to talk to the customers nor how to present meals for serving and the maître de’s lack of control and poor understanding of customer needs was ever evident. When one is invited to taste a Spanish flavours the image of slow cooked meats roasting over open coals, whilst marinated to infuse added intensity and a melt in the mouth experience. This was not what we were subjected to. Selected entree’s were such that given the ingredients and the minimalist approach to their presentation meant flavours were mediocre at best. It is, however, the cooking and serving of main courses were where this restaurant failed dismally. Black Angus steaks which were barely cooked to order, not seasoned and served with a sauce intimidating a velute and chunky potatoes as a side, a chicken dish that was over cooked, dry, not seasoned, very oily, sprinkled with shards of sweet potato and accompanied by a half a bottle of mayonnaise spiced with chipotle powder, and served with a side of limp tasteless pear, crumbled raw walnuts and a squirt of the same mayonnaise as the chipotle sauce except sold as a blue cheese flavour. This brings me to the final main, a pumpkin gnocchi with a pork belly’s ragoo. The only pumpkin in this dish was written on the menu and the gnocchi was small lumps of inedible rubber reminiscent of store bought and packaged products, and looked like something the dog threw up. These shortcomings were raised with the maître de and at no time during or after this discussion were the offer to compensate or replacement meals offered. Overall, the meals were under seasoned, poorly prepared, lacked even a basic understanding of flavour and flavour combinations. I would rate the chef’s performance as below that of an untrained home cook with preparation and service to a standard less than that of the worst pub food. I would rate this zero stars if I could and if Customers are looking for a Spanish inspired meal to...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Black Fire Grill in Brisbane, and I can confidently say that it was an unparalleled experience that kept me coming back for more—six times in just one week, to be exact! Each visit reinforced why this restaurant is a gem in the heart of the city.
From the moment I walked in on day one, I was captivated by the warm, inviting atmosphere. The rustic yet modern decor creates a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. However, it was the exceptional service that truly set Black Fire Grill apart. The team’s attentiveness and genuine care for their guests are evident in every interaction. Not only did they take note of my dining preferences during my first visit, but they remembered and catered to them seamlessly on each subsequent visit. It’s rare to find a place where the staff’s commitment to customer satisfaction is this consistent and heartfelt.
Now, let’s talk about the food—it was nothing short of extraordinary. Each dish was crafted with precision, from perfectly grilled meats to the freshest sides and creatively prepared starters. The flavors were rich, balanced, and showcased the quality of the ingredients. The attention to detail in the presentation added to the overall dining experience, making each meal feel special.
Dining at Black Fire Grill was not just about enjoying a meal; it was about being part of an experience where food, service, and ambiance come together flawlessly. The team’s passion for their craft is undeniable, and their ability to make each customer feel valued is commendable.
I wholeheartedly recommend Black Fire Grill to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience in Brisbane. Whether it’s a special occasion or a casual dinner, this restaurant will exceed your expectations. It’s no wonder I found myself returning night after night!
P.P. Don't forget to try their desert dishes! The Churros and chocolate fondue was...
Read moreUPDATE AFTER CHEF’S RESPONSE: The chef keeps changing his response to my review. One minute we haven’t paid for our “included” breakfast, and the next we’re rude to staff. All untrue as an attempt to clutch at straws. No refund was ever offered because we never asked for one, nor did we complain about the food. We just left some food on the plate which obviously hurt his ego. I’m not going to dignify any lie about abuse or “misogyny” by acknowledging it. Simply comical at this point. This chef/review writer is a disgrace who is clearly losing grasp of reality, all because someone didn’t eat everything on their plate.
You can also tell the fake reviews from the real by the background of the photos. If it’s marble, it’s fake. Embarrassing.
———————— Would not recommend! Extremely rude and unhinged chef/owner.
We attended breakfast one morning and the eggs were watery and everything else just basic. As it was conveniently located next to where we were staying, we still returned the next morning to grab something other than eggs this time.
Out of no where, the head Chef left the kitchen as we walked in just to come aggressively yell at us (in front of other guests) for “not eating all the food on our plate” the day before. We had no idea what had happened or why he was so angry, we honestly thought he had the wrong customers.
Nevertheless, we were subjected to about 5-10 minutes of abuse from the chef about how we should tell the kitchen if we aren’t happy with the food so we can get a refund (as opposed to simply thanking the waitress and leaving without making any fuss??). On that note, the waitress was very polite and welcoming on our first visit.
We left after that as we certainly weren’t comfortable eating there again.
If you need any confirmation of the nature of the manager/chef, read his replies on other negative reviews....
