Was so excited to come here for dinner, based on all the reviews it looked so good. But we got here and it wasn't even average. It was horrible. I haven't been to many places where the food is so bad it's not consumable. I ordered the teryiaki tofu don buri and, since I'm gluten free, I appreciate that the waiters went out of their way to get me gf tofu (ie. One that wasn't deep fried in flour). But in the end, all it ended up being was a bowl of rice with 4 pieces of tofu. The only flavour was horrible, light soy sauce and some Mayo that wasn't even Japanese Mayo. I was left with a dish that cost me almost $19, had cold tofu on a cold night and no flavour. Definitely not worth it and won't be back. I could even eat it. We left without even eating the bowl. My husband said is curry was very average. After coming all the way up from Melbourne, super disappointing end to the night. Also not sure why you need the air-conditioning on when it's freezing. I did like that they were playing Studio Ghibli movie, except it...
Read more1st visit: I had their beef udon with edamame and it was delicious. I'll be going back to taste more of their meals. Their taiyaki is not bad. 5/5
2nd visit: I ordered their tempura udon. Udon and broth was good, but then their tempura was not that great when you get through the plate. The prawn was good - not too floury or fried. Veggies - it starts to get okay. Then, the veggie fried omelete pieces was not good at all. Too fried and oily. It's not quite that of a traditional tempura udon. Their Karage chicken that I got with the complimentary meal was the most saddest karage chicken I have tasted. It's not crunchy, but the chicken was alright. 3/5
I believe their taiyaki is not home-made, but still is not bad. It tasted better when I saved a piece for the next day when the flavoured settled into the paste. I'd rather still order the beef udon and edamane, for sure. It has plenty of flavour when...
Read moreWe have always enjoyed Japanese cuisine and we look for Japanese restaurants whenever we are eating out. Due to the large number of reviews, we thought we would give Kadoya a try. This turned out to be a “Big mistake”. This was the only Japanese restaurant that looked like a cheap fast food Chinese restaurant. Very basic set up with cheap furniture and even more surprisingly all the dishes on their menu were priced even higher than food at some of the better and fancier restaurants that have beautiful dining facilities. You also have to order and pay before you sit down to dine. There are several far better options for Japanese cuisine around the Queen street Mall and I wonder whether the people who have left positive reviews for Kadoya have ever checked out any of the other Japanese restaurants in the area. For us, Kadoya was a huge...
