TL;DR - Below average food, inattentive staff
We booked online for a party of two, with a child requiring a highchair. When we got there, we stated the same, however, we were lead to the General Manager (GM) and our waiter interrupted him with another table to enquire about our seating arrangement (we were the only table with a highchair of ~6 tables seated in the whole place) - not a huge deal, but a precursor to the staffing incompetency.
Our waiter had English as their second language, and was also a trainee that was being handled by a more senior(?) waiter (no problem). I was slow and made sure to point at items I was ordering. We ordered;
Pomegranate Mojito Cocktail (never came) Greek Lemon Meringue Cocktail (never came) Kalamari Tiganito Chicken Souvlaki Mousaka (misspelt on their menu, and apparently out of stock?) Pastitsio (recommended in replacement of the Moussaka) Beef Stifado (on the specials menu, misspelt as well)
I would've thought being almost attached to the Greek church there would be some authenticity behind the food, but overall it was very disappointing:
Kalamari Tiganito - Waaay over salted (unfinished) Chicken Souvlaki - Over salted (unfinished) Moussaka - I don't know how you "run out" of what should be a made to order dish, but okay.. (all ingredients were readily available on other dishes) Pastitsio - Dry and piping hot; seemingly heated up in the microwave from last night's service Beef Stifado - Average, dry beef (unfinished)
There were more staff than tables seated, yet we did not once have anyone approach us after our order to enquire how our food was, to refill our water, to enquire if we wanted anything to drink, or order from the dessert menu.
I tried to flag staff a couple of times to receive more water because the food was that salty, but no luck. I eventually got water myself, and after the GM witnessing me pour our water, had approached and apologised.
The previously mentioned trainee approached our table at the end of our meal, to which I requested a cheque, she wasn't sure what I said the first time, but confirmed with me a second time. We waited several minutes and then saw her walk out as her shift was over, yet no cheque received. Thankfully another waiter came to clear our table shortly after, to which we asked again, and promptly received.
A gentleman at the host station near to us had waited so long for a staff member to pay his bill, that the bartender eventually had to come over to assist - I took this opportunity to piggyback a way out knowing that it might've taken days before an actual waiter assisted a customer. I checked the bill to see if the drinks I had ordered were charged, which they were not, meaning the trainee hadn't received proper oversight.
Food sucked, staff -though friendly with the couple of interactions- also sucked. For $128 (without drinks) for two I could cook better at home for a fraction, or there are better Greek restaurants in the area.
The (presumably) owner was micromanaging staff within hearing distance of our table. Perhaps sit down and taste your food once in a while?
Typically I reserve judgement until I've been to a restaurant at least twice, but this was so underwhelming, it was...
Read moreDeeeeeelicious! This is the BEST Greek restaurant we have ever been to outside of Greece itself! Great service, friendly staff and amazing food!
We ordered the trio of dips to start which was attractively presented, delicious and fresh. It was so yummy we ordered extra pit for the plentiful serves of dip on the platter. We shared the mains of chargrilled octopus and calamari with salt, pepper and lemon. For sides we had the devine Roka salad which consisted of rocket, toasted walnut, dill, pear, fresh fig, honey, mustard and shaved kefalograviera. Plus my favourite side which is a serve of chips/fries . The chips here are yummy, so crisp and crunchy. The biggest thing I noticed about the food was that it was seasoned to perfection. We usually have to add our own salt and pepper but not this time!
The Greek wine - Gavalas Santorini Assyrtiko 2021 - was delicious, very fresh and crisp.
The restaurant itself is modern and relaxed with a lovely outdoor area that catches the breeze. My only small gripe was that our table was seated right next to a support pillar which felt like it blocked me in, so I moved my chair which was better but next time I would request not to be seated at that particular table. The bathrooms were clean and after using the ladies I noticed a little table out the back of the restaurant that had food on it, so of course I went for a look. There were two lovely Greek ladies selling home made Greek desserts & pastries so after paying our bill we went out back and purchased some delicious authentic Greek Baklava to take home.
I am very particular about food and it is very very rare for me to give a restaurant a 5 star review so believe me when I say that this experience was exceptional! We will definitely...
Read moreThree of us went for an early Saturday evening dinner and were surprised in more ways than one when we found the restaurant. It adjoins a large reception area and is partly an extension rather than a separate venue. This, along with the food had a major impact on our experience. There was a wedding reception that we had to work our way through to get to the restaurant. The noise dominated the evening and for part of the time we had people from the reception standing over us while we were eating, as the bar extends into the restaurant area. The decor was bland; we worked out the analogy was a generic breakfast cafeteria in a large hotel. There are plenty of pictures from other reviewers so you can judge for yourself. The menu selection is reasonable although slightly limited. The meals range between $30 to $40 and beyond and come with nothing else eg. octopus cooked in red wine was just octopus cooked in red wine. The serving sizes were standard so for $32 one would hope for the value to be in the quality of the meal. Unfortunately, the octopus was simply a vehicle for a slightly bitter red wine jus. This was more flavour than the calamari left behind however. Separate sides of chips and salad were fine but added to the expense of having a rounded meal. Can't speak for other dishes on the menu - maybe they would have redeemed the evening. I'm glad to say the staff were beautiful and very attentive. We hoped our Greek Club experience could have been more but in the future will be sticking to restaurants that just...
