Tasty ramen with a full-bodied broth.
Following a friend’s recommendation we decided to try this place out. Overall, the experience and food was average.
We tasted a variety of ramen dishes and side dishes. All of the sides dishes we ordered (karaage chicken and pork gyozas) lacked flavor and texture. The portion sizes were acceptable and were plenty for 3 people to share. The gyozas were burnt and the presentation was boring and unappealing.
The ramen dishes were also good but the flavor became repetitive. Each dish had a different broth that had excellent flavours. We ordered thick curly noodles in all of our ramen - they were not thick or curly. All of the ramen had small quantities of meat, something that we did not enjoy or expected.
The ordering process through their Ipad menu was fast. However, all the items were difficult to see because their attached pictures were miniature.
The overall vibe of the restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a popular Ramen shop. The decor is simple and almost looks unfinished.
Prices are steep and dishes can become extremely expensive especially if adding extras.
Many websites have promoted this restaurant as one of the best ramen shops in Brisbane. While I agree that the food was good, I do not think it can be considered as ”one...
Read moreOmg Taros is a vegan ramen enthusiast's dream ❤✨. There are quite a few vegan ramen options in Brisbane now but here's the thing. Ramen can take the form of many styles.
One of the factors is how heavy the broth is 🍜. Most other places swing hard to the light broth style, which is fine and delicious. But when it's raining and late at night and I just am craving ramen, you know where I'm going? Taros. The broth is so heartwarming and satisfying. It's like a liquid hug. 🤗
The second thing about the kind of ramen Taros sells is that the toppings are much more traditional. The tofu is really the star (in concert with the noodles of course), similar to how pork normally is. You get some supporting ingredients like slices of green onion, a bit of dried seaweed, some bamboo shoots, and sprouts. Other ramen places in Brisbane do this thing I'll never understand - loading up my bowl with corn and carrots and even cauliflower? No thanks. 😕
It's about the same price point as most ramen places I've been to in Brisbane. And honestly I'd pay more since it's...
Read moreThe ONLY place I'll happily pay for a $30+ bowl of ramen. Of course, after adding a few extras etc. But seriously, Tarocs Ramen is S+ tier food. Extremely satisfying and fulfilling without becoming gluttonous or a labour to finish.
15-minute wait for a table on our visit - it was a COLD Monday night so this made sense to me - should've reserved 🤷🏾♂️, but DEFINITELY worth the wait!
The Tonkotsu broth is beautifully smooth and slightly creamy - opting for one the spicier versions loses some of that, but adds an indulgent extra layer to the dish with a bit of zest. I would recommend taking the mid-tier heat level to get that nice balance.
If you're thinking of hitting the big-daddy hot Tonkotsu, you might be underwhelmed, but I think this is a smart choice by Chef. The condiments trolley is there for you to make your adjustments so use it!
Too busy stuffing my face to take photos, but will add on next...
