Ordered Tom yum, pad Thai, fish cake, rice with peanut sauce, papaya salad combo.
Tom yum was not the traditional Tom yum we were used to, but was very good. Good levels of spice and sour.
Fish cake we ordered, 4 PCs. Only two pieces were left so we got it for free which was nice. They were generic fish cakes nothing out of this world but points for service.
Rice with peanut sauce was legitimately the best dish. Simple pure comfort food. Culinary genius.
Pad Thai was the best pad Thai I've had in perth. I've had a lot of pad thais bahn bahn, silks, they are good but nowhere near the level of this pad Thai. If God was a dish he would be this pad Thai.
Papaya salad was ok. Without the sauce it was just ok. With the sauce it was a alot better the papaya was kinda chewy. Definitely not the best salad. But the sauce really saves it.
Overall a really good experience, will definitely come back. Especially for the peanut sauce rice. I will 💯 dream...
Read moreThe restaurant itself had a sort of downmarket chic vibe going on. Attentive helpful young waitress tended to us. We both decided to order a chicken pad Thai - tasty easy and straightforward thai comfort food. Never disappoints. Until tonight that is. It got to our table and I was assailed by an odour of Ketchup or something strong tomato based. Anyone who has eaten authentic pad Thai knows nothing tomato based goes into it. On tasting it, there was just no way this was going to fly. It had a funky strange flavour to it, almost as if the tamarind had been eked out with Ketchup or something. Whatever it was, it was wrong on every count. I pointed out that it tasted very odd and asked was there tomato in it? The waitress confirmed there was. If they had wanted to keep goodwill, they should have offered to remake it MINUS the tomato. They did not. As a result we will never get a meal there again, and can only say worst...
Read moreWhile we had somewhere else in mind but the wait was too long, we decided to give Chuonkin a try. Best decision ever!!
We did not have any reservation and they accommodate us as soon as there’s table available. Beautiful setting with beautiful classical Christmas music (yes that’s my type!).
What’s offered on the menu is very inviting and so easy to over order because we want to try a lot!
Barramundi 3 ways is good. Tom Kha chicken is creamy and aromatic, stir fry vege has the wok charred taste that we appreciate, the fried rice is so yummy my non rice lover child asked for more, and the portion of the rice is huge! Chicken satay however is average in my opinion as the chicken breast is quite dry and the sauce is lack of the peanut crunchiness and aroma.
Will we return? Yes we will. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate or just casual dine in, please try this...
