Finally! Perth's version of something similar of Lune! So exciting!
We rocked up a week ago, only to be informed that they had new machinery being installed and weren't prepared to sell sub-standard croissants, which was sad but comforting at the same time. So we came back again a week later for breakfast!
Ordered 5 types of croissants - Salted Egg, Kaya, Ham & Cheese, Char Siew and Earl Grey Lavender. Here's our thoughts.
Our absolute favorite was the Char Siew (Asian Style BBQ Pork). If any of you out there are looking for a combination of East meets West, look no further. This is the one. The char siew filling was tasty and a good sized portion was put in the croissant. It was absolutely divine. 10/10.
Runner up was the Ham & Cheese. Picture a piping hot croissant, stringy cheese and slices of ham. Our 2 year old daughter loved it. Finished an entire one on her own. 10/10 in her books. 10/10 from us cuz she's usually a very picky eater.
Salted Egg Croissant. The salted egg lava filling was fantastic. Tasted good and paired well with the croissant. We'd probably have preferred it warm.
Kaya (Coconut Jam) Croissant. Similar thoughts as the Salted Egg. We weren't able to finish this in the store. So we took it home and had it for afternoon tea. It was still good.
Earl Grey Lavender Croissant. We had to wait a bit for this. Approximately an hour, which was fine for us because we were eating our other croissants in store. We ordered this because of the unique flavour pairing. It was good and for those of you who are wondering, it was not too sweet, just nice.
Final thoughts. It wasn't just the flavours in the croissants. The croissants themselves were wonderful - flaky, layered, buttery - too good. Store's beautifully renovated. It's got that style that just reminded us of Lune over in Melbourne, except smaller. Don't really like the fact that its in the City on Barracks Street. But for those of you who don't know yet, CPP Pier Street is doing free 3P on weekends, so that could swing things in your favour. If you work in the city, do go and try out the fantastic croissants. Promise you it's worth it.
Come back again? Definitely, just so we can try all the other flavours. This could be hard cuz the flavours are not always readily available when you walk in to the store. Maybe calling ahead to find out what's available could help. Store owner and his wife, who is also the baker (sorry I didn't get your name) were very friendly...
Read more'Someone is trying something different, a fusion of culinary disciplines'. This sentence in itself can go two ways for an establishment, winning or closing down. We'll get back to the fusion thing in a moment. I need to add in here that I am a slave to a good croissant, and I'm happy to do the mileage to have that buttery, soft goodness dissolve in my mouth. Fortunately for me, the distance was merely the road across from my hotel and the establishment, Croff Bakery. My die-hard purist croissant pig-headedness had waived off any fray into their croissant fusion sandwich from ham and cheese to beef rendang. I was happy to grab my long black and plain croissant, walking off believing I was holding up Parisian values and not a misguided fusion adventure. Fast forward to the last few days of my stay, and after striking up a conversation with the owner, I felt compelled to lash out. Croissant bread/ loaf did now intrigue me, and with ham and cheese, how could I go wrong? My mind was blown from the buttery layers of flavour and texture that met my tastebuds, followed by a generous hit of ham and melted cheese. The ham and cheese toastie, held to reverence for so many years had finally taken on an angelic form I never knew could have been reached. Please, all purveyors of flavour, decadence and cheesy goodness, make an effort to sample The Croff Bakery's spin on the humble croissant, oh and they make a damn fine...
Read moreI had the pleasure of stumbling upon Croff during in city center of Perth, and it turned out to be a delightful find!
To our delight, the croissants at Croff were absolutely exceptional. We tried both a savoury and a sweet croissant, and they exceeded our expectations. The savoury option, filled with spicy chorizo, had just the right amount of heat, adding an exciting kick to the dish. As someone who doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, I was pleasantly surprised by the balanced flavors of the sweet croissant. It managed to avoid being overly sweet, making for a truly enjoyable treat.
Not only were the croissants uniquely created and bursting with flavor, but they also kept us coming back for more. Despite having plenty of other breakfast options available, we found ourselves returning to Croff not once, but three times throughout our stay. That's how good it was! Additionally, the coffee was excellent, complementing the crispy freshness of the croissants perfectly.
The staff went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable, making us feel welcomed and valued as customers.
If you're in search of a breakfast spot that offers a unique twist on the classic croissant, look no further than Croff. With their delectable flavors, great coffee, and impeccable service, this hidden gem is certainly...
