As a devoted fan of Japanese cuisine, I recently had the pleasure of dining at Taka Japanese Restaurant, and I must say, it was an absolute delight from start to finish. Taka's commitment to authenticity, impeccable service, and delectable dishes left an indelible impression on me. Allow me to share my exceptional dining experience.
Upon entering Taka, I was immediately struck by the elegant and serene ambiance. The minimalist decor, adorned with traditional Japanese elements, created an inviting atmosphere that perfectly complemented the dining experience. The soft lighting and subtle background music enhanced the overall tranquility, making it an ideal setting for a relaxed meal.
The attentive and knowledgeable staff at Taka truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment I was seated, they demonstrated a genuine passion for Japanese cuisine, offering valuable recommendations and answering all my queries with enthusiasm. Their warm and friendly demeanor contributed to the welcoming ambiance, making me feel like a valued guest throughout the evening.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food. Taka's menu showcases an extensive selection of traditional Japanese dishes, prepared with the utmost care and precision. Read moreTaka’s Kitchen on Barrack Street is a no-frills Japanese eatery that prioritizes affordability over ambiance or service. If you’re looking for a quick, budget-friendly meal in the heart of Perth, it’s a solid option—just don’t expect to be blown away by the experience.
The interior is very basic, resembling a work cafeteria with plain tables and minimal decor. There’s no attempt to create a cozy or inviting atmosphere, so it’s not a place where you’d linger or bring someone to impress. The functional setup does the job for a quick meal, but it doesn’t add to the dining experience.
As for the food, it’s decent enough for the price. The menu offers standard Japanese options like teriyaki chicken, katsu curry, and udon, all served in generous portions. The flavors are average—nothing outstanding, but nothing bad either. It’s the kind of food that fills you up without emptying your wallet, which is a rare find in the city center.
The biggest drawback, however, is the service. The staff can come across as moody or uninterested, which detracts from the overall experience. A little friendliness or enthusiasm would go a long way in improving the vibe.
Overall, Taka’s Kitchen is best suited for those on a budget who care more about portion sizes than presentation or service. It’s not a place you’ll rave about, but it gets the job done when you’re after a cheap, satisfying...
Read moreCame back here after 10 years. This used to be my go-to place to eat when I was a student due to its cheap price. I was impressed after all these years, it’s still only $8.50 for a small meal. Where else can you get such cheap meal? And I think their menu has expanded too, I saw more choices than back then. Had my favourite dish here, the miso katsu don. My husband had the karaage rice. It took a while for the foods to come. After so long not having meal here, I realised their tea is really nice, it’s rice tea which I feel quite rare to get in restaurants, it’s usually Chinese or jasmine tea so I really enjoyed this one. When foods came, we were impressed with how the foods look. The large karaage portion is generous. My miso katsu don still tasted beautiful, although I wished they gave more sauce. I also noticed the veggies used to be chopped lettuce, but now replaced by cabbage which is ok, not a big deal. But we were impressed with the quality of the food. The karaage and katsu chicken were nice and crispy outside, moist meat inside. After all these years, Taka has remained high quality for its price. I truly hope they keep this up. It’s nice to see a restaurant from 10 years ago still thriving and exist, since I noticed there are hardly any restaurants still standing after 10...
