This is potentially the best cafe I’ve ever been to! Went there with my mates for breakfast after a concert the night before. I had an acaí bowl and iced cappuccino and it was probably the best meal I’ve ever had at a cafe. It’s got your usual avo mash as well as old classics like eggs and soldiers; but it’s also got more adventurous options. And I’m not one to venture out of my comfort zone too often when it comes to new places as a Bunburian tourist in the concrete jungle. The menu is practical and easy to read, not full of fluffy words to make it sound good. It’s genuine and really lives up to what it claims. Every meal I saw delivered to tables was presented perfectly and the customer service was spectacular. I felt comfortable asking questions and the atmosphere is so welcoming and homely. It would be perfect for any kind of gathering between friends, family, SOs, and colleagues. The only thing I would have changed about my meal was the sweetness, which at times overpowered the diversity of the individual components. My friend had pancakes and it was very rich - which is good to an extent, but it can be a bit sickening. I don’t think any of your meals need to be overly sweet to be delicious! Another thing I noticed was that unlike other dine-ins, the food actually gave me energy rather than draining me or making me hungrier. The meal was full of colourful surprises and bursts of flavour... and flowers!? How lovely! Overall it was a mighty good experience and I’d happily take another train ride to Perth just to visit this place again.
P.S. my friend's coffee was also kind of cold. But that's okay,...

Stumbled upon this tiny corner café while wandering the city in the morning—and it was just the vibe we needed. Sunny, buzzing, and filled with happy people enjoying their coffee. While both inside and outside were packed, we managed to snag a table right after ordering. The vibe is cosy, comfortable, and inviting—perfect for a slow morning or a casual catch-up. Ambience: 4.5/5 ⸻
What We Tried Chicken Baguette: 5/5 The baguette—made with a mix of flours—was wonderfully textured, fresh, and slightly warm. You can tell these guys take their baking seriously. A standout. Mini Bagel with Ham & Cheese: 4/5 Soft, chewy, and perfectly portioned. Simple, but hits the spot. Almond Cranberry Ball: 3.5/5 A sweet little treat, but just a tad too sugary for our liking. Still enjoyable with coffee. Cappuccino: 5/5 Balanced, smooth, and rich—just what a morning coffee should be. Long Black: 5/5 Excellent roast. Full-bodied and flavourful without being overpowering. Mocha: 4/5 A bit on the chocolatey side compared to a classic mocha, but delicious all the same.

Service: 5/5 The staff were friendly, quick, and clearly know their craft. Orders came out promptly, and there’s a sense of pride in what they serve, especially when chatting about their bread.
Overall Experience: 4.5/5 La Veen is a little gem in the city—great coffee, honest food, and an atmosphere that draws you in. Whether you’re after a quick caffeine fix or a quiet spot to unwind, this place hits the mark. Definitely worth a stop when...
Read moreDon't come to Lap Veen if you are after generosity. I wanted to leave a good review. I really did. But when I've asked if I could order the house version of a big breakfast and remove tomatoes (not listed on the menu) and mushrooms ($4.50 to add as an extra) and instead have a half avocado (which the menu also lists as $4.50 as an extra) and I'm told I will have to pay the $4.50 on top of the $25 I'm already paying then I just can't give you love.
I particularly can't give you love after seeing the big breakfast (because my husband ordered it) and wondering where the rest of the bacon is and why we're paying a fairly substantial $25 (well $26.25 on weekends) for hash browns from the freezer section at Coles. It just didn't seem like an overly generous serving for the price. The scrambled eggs were passable but needed more seasoning and the small amount of butter I got to cover my two pieces of toast left me with dry, unpleasant sourdough. The husband wasn't very impressed by his breakfast, he didn't hate it but all he said was "it was ok".
The "large" coffees are also what I would consider regular sized but I'm sure we will be charged "large" prices for them.
I also resent having a menu that tells me I need to pay a 5% surcharge on weekends. I understand that staff costs are higher on weekends but just adjust your menu prices every day to cover it or do counter service on weekends as well as weekdays or have a weekend menu that has weekend prices on it.
It's not a terrible experience but it certainly didn't fill...
