Such a shame. Came here yesterday and was really disappointed. I came here a few years ago and it was really good. I love ramen. Ive been to pretty much most of the well known places in perth and also in queensland. So when I came back here after knowing it was a memorable experience last time, I realised they had really dropped the ball. We arrived there and were seated. We ordered gyoza, karaage and 4 x ramen. When the gyoza arrived. We received no share plates (which I thought that this is usually a given, considering its Japanese cuisine?) So we sat there putting our karaage and gyoza onto our napkins. There was no staff to be seen and I tried waving them down and making eye contact with them but they seemed to be avoiding our table? Either that or they were not very attentive to their customers. I finally got up and had to go ask for share plates. We got our ramen. Not sure if its authentic but the meat was cold ? Wasn't sure if its hotpot or ramen? The broth was tasteless and much resembling dishwater. It tasted a bit better after putting alot of chilli oil and sesame seeds in it. But it seemed like an atrocity having to add flavour to something that traditionally should have been flavourful or a broth that's been loved and nurtured. My daughter and her friend, were having difficulties with their chopsticks. So after searching around and the staff dodging us again, (They could see we needed their attention). They finally came over and we asked for forks. We waited what seemed like forever for 2 forks. By this time I had already finishing my meal. The karagge and the gyozas were nice, but really pricy for 3 pieces of karaage. Hence the 3 stars. When we were leaving we all stood up, and again tried to get the waiters attention for a takeaway container. Instead of coming up to us so we could tell him we needed a container he walked away from us but pointed and mouthed to us to come to the register? We tried to tell him we wanted a container. But he said we had to pay for the 50 cent container first?

So we were standing between our table and the register trying to make sure the waiter didnt clear the food we wanted to takeaway and also pay for the 50 cent container. (We literally had just eaten 120 dollars worth of food. Why was he so worried about us paying right then and there for the 50 cent container?) It was so awkward!

My partner, me and the kids couldnt wait to leave. Certainly wont be returning.

Atmosphere was nice, really nice decor and feels very upper class, but such a shame the food and the service...

Great Ramen- Atrocious Service Ippudo is a ramen place that has a lot going for it. Firstly their ramen is excellent. Our favourites are the Karakamen ramen and today the special was the Sukiyaki ramen. The Sukiyaki was really tasty and umami with Smokey flavors and delicious meat- very different from their normal offerings. The sides are always good with the edamame, octopus and yam fries highly recommended. The gyoza was ok. Ippudo is a really good family friendly option with comfortable seating, table service and a pretty wide menu that would accommodate individuals in your group that dont just want ramen. Bit different from some of the more basic(but delicious) places if you a looking for a nice dinner out with family and friends. Despite the great food and atmosphere. It is almost completely let down by really bad service. Wait staff look quite disinterested and disorganized. I’m making this call after eating in Ippudo Perth City many many times. Even if there is one or two customers be prepared to wait an inordinate amount time for your food. Also you can role the dice as to who gets what and when. People coming in much later may get served before. This mysterious way of service may annoy some - so best beware. There does seem to be an good number of staff on, it they generally just seem to be standing around and talking to each other. After your order is taken don’t expect and further service from the staff. You pretty much need to walk up to someone to get their attention. For a table service restaurant this is poor. My family had finished their ramen before mine arrived about 15 to 20 minutes later. That tasty edamame you ordered for a snack will probably arrive just as you’re ready to pay the bill. When I queried a stuff a to where our food was as half the dishes had arrived, I was told (quite condescendingly) that they have 2 stations for cooking and the “food will come when it comes”. Surprisingly all the food came minutes after I enquired as to where it was. In conclusion - really good ramen and a really nice place to sit down with a group for dinner. I can’t fault the food and atmosphere. It is let down by atrocious service in comparison to other Ramen places that prioritize prompt and...

I asked the staff what to recommend for me and she told me that I should try their limited edition Mala Tonkotsu Ramen. I waited for like 10 to 15 minutes only for another staff notified me that they cannot do the limited edition Mala Tonkotsu Ramen. I thought that is bizarre so I let it slide. I again asked this staff (different from earlier) which other tonkotsu ramen to recommend me and he told me the Bonito Tonkotsu Ramen. I was asked why not their most popular one instead. He said its not quite Tonkotsu based so I went with his recommendation.

After another 10 to 15 minute wait, I finally get my food. I can definitely smell the bonito flavour. I noticed in the soup there are some raw onions which weirded me out a bit. I tried the soup only to find that the flavour of the bonito and pork flavour does not combine well at all. I did not like the noodles as there were very thin noodles like vermicelli noodles. Noodles were not firm, a bit soggy, not so nice texture to it. The egg was okay, close to being hard boiled. The only good thing in this dish was the chashu.

Overall, I had quite a bad experience at this place and would not come back. I would not recommend this place if both the service and other ramen were terrible like this. Staff recommended me something that they don't have? And I had a long wait even though the place was not even busy. The person next to me, walked in the same time as me. Got his meal and left before I even got my meal or even started. The ramen feels a little expensive for this...

Okay we’re talking Hakata ramen here and if you know your noodles in soup, you know that this is the best out there. But I hear you cry “$25 a bowl! For ramen! That’s crazy!” - yes! Ramen is a cheap food and this isn’t and here’s why - proper Hakata ramen is crazy labour intensive to make. Pork bones are meticulously scrubbed to get rid of any traces of connective tissue then boiled overnight to release that wonderful marrow that makes the soup so meaty. Only then are the rest of the ingredients added. So when it hits your plate you’re looking at over 12 hours of work there. Could you do the same for $25? No, you couldn’t. So pay up and enjoy. I was just at their branch in Ikebukuro, Tokyo last week and though perth’s offering was great, it wasn’t quite as meaty and umami-like as the one in T-town. Some work to do, ippudo. That said you’re the only serious contender for Tonkotsu King now Kizuki Ramen has gone (sorry establishments in vic park - you’re not in the same league. Freshmade, sadly, that goes for you too). The only one else in Perth that could knock the crown off could be the new establishment at the Melbourne hotel, or the yet to be opened ramen joint on barrack street, both of which I have yet to try. But here at Ippudo you get world class ramen at a decent price. Attentive service, a clean, modern restaurant and really pleasant staff. Oh and draft Asahi in a frosted glass. That’s enough to get any japaonphile through the door. Five stars. Ikimashou to ippudo! I’ll see you there.
