I attended this place for the first, and last, time this week. If I could allocate a minus score I would.
I took great care when ordering my meal as I suffer from allergies. When my food arrived, spread over it was an item which was not listed on the menu nor mentioned at ordering. Naturally I needed to know what it was so I asked a waitress. She went to the kitchen and returned twice before admitting she didn’t understand what I was asking. Next came the chef who would only reply that the ingredients were “all natural” and she flatly refused to divulge the ingredients. By this point, the woman sitting near me came to my defence. The chef begrudgingly snatched the plate and stormed off to the kitchen to replace it, pointing me out to the staff as she entered the food prep area. I asked another waitress for the manager. After repeating myself a couple of times, she told me that he wasn’t in but the owner may be in later - it transpired the rude chef was actually a co-owner though she didn’t tell us this.
When leaving, I approached the owner/chef and explained that her inability to provide details of ingredients on her menu was not only unacceptable but potentially dangerous to her customers. She kept reiterating that the ingredients are “all natural”; she could not/would not understand that this is an inadequate response to many people with serious allergies. She then told me that if I didn’t trust chefs, perhaps I shouldn’t eat out. I was gobsmacked. Why would anyone trust someone who couldn’t/wouldn’t answer a simple, but vital, question?
Needless to say, I will not be returning to this dreadful place nor will the lady sitting near me who witnessed this disgusting behaviour. Might I suggest that the owners of this place learn about allergies to understand how it’s “all natural” is not an acceptable response to “what is in it?”. Might I also suggest that the owners of this place employ people who are able to communicate and then take lessons themselves. I shall pre-empt the owner’s response by saying, yes, you did replace the food, but you did so begrudgingly, rudely and after almost reducing me to tears - I have an unbiased witness to attest to this. One final word – thank you so much to the woman seated near me who was...
Read moreWe have been regulars for years and absolutely loved Iconic. We have bought so many people with us. Today we returned after the recent renovations and tried to order the exact same thing I always order: a toasted bacon sandwich. Literally bacon on Turkish bread. We were told that they would not do this anymore. The waitress went and checked with I’m guessing the owner or manager and came back and said flat out no. They would not fry up some bacon and put it into a sandwich for me. For the price you pay at this cafe (which we have always been happy to pay as the food used to be absolutely delicious), why should I order everything separately and assemble it myself? What an absolutely ridiculous policy you have adopted. You claim in your response to a review below that your renovation was done to make the visitor more comfortable and relaxed. What part of me trying to make and assemble hot food at my table is a pleasant experience? Now instead of making ~$50 off us you will make nothing as we have been forced to find somewhere else to have our weekly brunch treat. Iconic used to be our happy place, a weekend sanctuary to come and treat ourselves. I would be happy to return should you revert to your former customer centric ethics but not before this. I am so...
Read moreWe ordered 2x b&e on Turkish and a breakfast wrap, with juice and iced chocolate. In the roll, I paid extra for mushroom and id say in the whole roll there were 3 actual whole mushrooms. Rest was a lot of onion which was overwhelming and just the taste of bread. I also asked for BBQ sauce and based on how much they gave me and put in the b&e rolls, this cafe must have decided BBQ sauce it's too expensive to give to customer and have measured out exactly 1ml to put in each sandwich. B&e rolls had runny yolk in the middle which makes no sense for a b&e and as you can imagine, the yolk went everywhere when you tried to eat it. Don't get me started on the juice - $9 and it's clearly out of a bottle. If I go to a cafe and order a tropical juice with passion fruit and orange and mint, I'm actually hoping it's fresh squeezed. I find it extremely misleading that they don't specify that it's pre brought. The ice chocolate came WARM also. Not sure how that happens with milk and ice cream and it was very alarming. Don't think I'd come back esp for those prices. Will say food came...
