Had a McCrappy day and feel like eating your feelings until you fall into a food coma?
Mr Charlie's can help.
If your therapy has stopped because the costs are just too high, and your meds have been exhausted because you still see in real time, then hop on under the golden arch of sadness to share your demise with like-minded folk.
The menu is what you'd expect of a red and yellow burger joint, although it does offer lashings of ethical choice and tantalising moral flavour.
Something you wouldn't typically expect.
Saving a cow is now that much easier with burger choices that should satisfy the everyday maccas junkie.
In fact, Mr Charlie's fries actually taste better than the Golden Arched variety!
Working for an establishment that helps save the lives of animals from slaughter takes a lot of heart, and there is no shortage of that from the crew here at Mr Charlie's.
What a joy it is to be welcomed by an indigenous Australian, once thought to be extinct, now serving a smile and a giggle with your new favourite Mr Unhappy meal.
Mr Charlie's offers a work program that not only saves the lives of beautiful fluffy animals, but of beautiful fluffy humans too.
Many of the team members have been given a chance to prove to our community that they still matter after experiencing things such as trauma, incarceration, abuse, social isolation and more.
What a great way to make someone's day!
Mr Charlie's may not be able to make your McCrap go away, and the price may be a tad McSteep, however the joy is reserved for the animals who are in McCages who are silently waiting for their own version of a happy meal.
With an honest approach to under promising you a good time, the team at Mr Charlie's certainly aren't shy about welcoming sad faces, its what they do, that's why it's painted...
Read moreI wanted to update my review as the store has listened to consumers and made some positive positive changes! It's a really great vegan fast food replacement, I'm really glad Sydney has Mr. Charlie's! The food is really good especially the not a cheeseburger. They have an American style vegan cheese that I haven't seen or been able to find elsewhere. It's great to have a really good vegan fast food replacement. The not chicken nuggets have a tempura style batter which I also haven't been able to find elsewhere which I greatly appreciate. The last time I went the nuggets were covered in salt however it was easy enough to dust off. I don't think the nuggets need salt like the chips do. It is pretty expensive for what feels like cheap fast food but with the cost of livin6and the 'vegan tax's, it is to be expected. There is a fairly large step into the store so there isn't really a way to implement a temporary/portable ramp however the staff are aware of the accessibility issues and will meet wheelchair users at the front and help them place orders. I usually place my orders through a delivery app for pick-up if I am not with an able bodied person to place my order for me. They have indoor and outdoor tables, the outdoor tables are accessible & undercover in case theres bad weather. There's also a fair amount of public benches around the front of the store. It is close to the station, it's easy to get to + from the station & restaurant, there are a few crossings but theres sloaps at every crossing. When I originally wrote my review there wasn't constant opening hours listed however that issue has been addressed. I am excited to see the menu expand and hopefully see some...
Read moreInitially I was so excited to see that Charlie’s was coming to Australia, let alone Sydney as it’s first flagship store in oz. I drove 1hr from the Central Coast NSW via Redfern before an appointment in Surry Hills. As I said excited!!! That all went out the window when we arrived into a store with No vibe or atmosphere just after opening a week ago. Presented with only 2 burger options ( basically the same burger with or without cheese and fries. Very disappointing!!! My partner was wanting the nuggets.
We where given a lame excuse they are being held up on a ship somewhere.
Asked for a lemonade to be told straight NO. Then the attendant realised we call Lemonade what they call Sprite in America!!!! Research your target market a little. We actually have Both here in Australia… The service was abrupt and not once where we asked as a customer why we choose Charlie’s or even a “welcome to Charlie’s and our new store!!!!
The burger was very dissatisfying and the fries were cold and unsalted…. $26.50 for burger combo and a extra small fries. A little steep in value for money.
My partner went across the road to get a burger from Huxterburgers as no other options are available. I’m sorry don’t open a store if your still waiting for product to arrive.
The whole experience was very amateur and the Sydney food scene won’t stand for it. Let alone our other family states in Australia.
First impressions are it, in a very competitive market…you won’t last if this level of incompetence continues.. such a let down as it could...
